Bitten by unknown fly/insect..?

Post by usual suspect »

While riding down the Klong road I noticed what appeared to be a large black fly-like insect just under the rim of my T-shirt sleeve..yes instant reaction..swat it.. there ya go!
You guessed..a Km or 2 up the road I had to pull in & rub-on some Tiger Balm..little critter had bitten/stung me..ho-hum, we ventured on.
Now, a day later without any discomfort for a good 30hrs..my upper arm has hardened, the area has become itchy & reddened, my skin has changed texture all around the area..what was this damn thing??

I've seen some optimistic questions on here, but this is a cracker! Good luck.

Try tabanus black horse fly thailand in google search for images.

Did it leave a visible puncture wound?

US - sounds like one of them disgusting horse flies.
Not sure if they have them in Thailand.
But used to get bitten a lot in Scotland, anywhere near fields or lochs.
Looked like a long fly, and left a real nasty bite that swelled up.

Well you lot..after going on Google, & seeing a pic of 'Tabanus-chew-on-Falangus'.. I reckon it was indeed a Horsefly..no real puncture-marks tho..But will administer some cream etc..Cheers for the replies..

U.S.,
Did the wee beastie look anything like this?
Have you developed an insatiable thirst?
Are you finding yourself increasingly irritable during daylight hours??
