Re: Pizza
The pizzas at La Familia on soi 102 are the best I have had in Hua Hin - The service is a bit slow, but the pizzas are delicious.

and to get good mexican food you would probably have to leave Thailand.
Re: Pizza
There's a new Pizza and pasta place open on the big road between Petchkaseam and the Beach. Sorry I don't know the name of it but it's the one that has Coco 51, Baan Satanee, and Meeting along it (to name but a few).
The name of the place alludes me too (doing well, aren't I?!) But I think it's something along the lines of Agola alola.
Went to try it out the other week and I have to say it's not only the best Pizza I've had in Hua Hin, but one of the best I've evver had in Thailand! I know Pizza is a very personal thing - while my girlfirend liked it, she still prefers the ones at Da Mario, but for me this place was the nuts. Nice doughy, and slightly charred, base.
Olive and chilli oil was brought out to the table. Unfortunately no black pepper, which was the only real letdown.
Had a takeaway from there the other night and it was equally as good.

Went back last night and the black pepper situation, I'm pleased to report, had been rectified!Pleng wrote: Olive and chilli oil was brought out to the table. Unfortunately no black pepper, which was the only real letdown.

Perhaps it was just an oversight on the first visit.

Being I love Pizza and am always in search of good pie, I tried the two newest recomondations
First) VOLARE at the Grand Market. Met the owner who graciouslly told me how good his Pizza was. I explained how I like my Pizza not like a cracker. It was a take away, he told me to please let him know how I liked it. When I got home the Pizza when you went to fold the slice in half it cracked . Not to my liking. On my next trip to the Grand I stopped by and told him what I thought. He got defensive but said let me make you a new pie. I went shopping came back to it being taken out of the oven. We took out a slice I cut and ate a bite. Needless to say I did not take the rest home. Everyones taste is differant so you might want to give it a try.
Second) Aglio Olio on Neebkahard Rd alittle past YouYen on the opposite side. This pizza was very good and the prices very fair. I will go back and try more.
Next I need to try the one on soi 80

Re: Pizza
I love pizza...but still at a loss in Hua Hin.
Does anywhere have a proper wood-fired or clay pizza oven? (and excluding Pizza Pizza by Manee which is just awful with terrible service)

I think you'll find that most of the proper Italian restaurants have wood fired ovens.Scotian2012 wrote:I love pizza...but still at a loss in Hua Hin.

Re: Pizza
I agree Dannie Boy..With the exception Montri Bar I haven't yet had a poor pizza in HH, and all have had wood fired clay or brick ovens.

I sort of know what Foodie means, but I don't attach quite the same importance.
I think of all the different foods we've talked about on this forum, pizza is possibly the one that most depends on personal taste.

Went last night with friends. EXCELLENT. Big made to order pizzas. Spaghetti dishes too. Some Thai flavoured, burgers and chops.smiles wrote:Try Thaiwai Restaurant & Bar on Soi 80 for very good pizza and extremely good great big fat juicy hamburgers.
I prefer my pizzas thin crust style (Corner Pizza is best for these I agree), but Thaiwai's version is, although not very thin, certainly not one of those god awful thick & chewy monstrocities. But taste is all, and Thaiwai pizzas fulfill that in spades.
Ignore the hamburgers there and you do so at your expense ... the best I've ever had in Hua Hin.
Pizzas are in the ubiquitous 180-200 baht range. Burgers are in the 80 baht range.
Pool table upstairs, and the ambience is laid back and easy. I like it very much, and not only because it's just around the corner from our house ... 35 steps!![]()
