Nice one Guess, I was waiting to see if you or someone else would go for it! :D I actually live in the Royal Borough, rather than the town itself!!!

The town centre certainly needs to save itself before its too late.

Oh well, time for a change again, as soon as I can think of one!!!

OK, then renew the 30 year lease every 5 years, during marriage. As long as she agrees everything's fine. If she refuses, you'll have 25 years to find a rich girlfriend who can solve all your problems. How about that!? :thumb:

Great idea, but I think I might have difficulty finding a rich Thai girl.

Plus, if she refuses she's probably already sold the lease anyway!!

I reckon I've thought this through from every angle 100 times!!

Children

Just a thought but (as in UK) can you put your property in your childs name to be held in trust? Ok, you may still lose your investement but at least if things turn sour between you and your wife it will be your children that benefit?? And you've got 20 odd years to live in your investment - which is a darned sight longer than the average Thai/Farang marriage!

True, but you can still live there for 25 years more, and by then you'll be 80-90, perhaps 100, and the house will still be yours. Then you sell the house to the landowner. For the money you get you can rent yourself a shorttime room on top of a bar downtown and save on taxi fares and maids' salaries. You'll FEEL rich! :thumb:

Yep - depends how far I get into the original lease and 5 year top-ups as to what age I'll be when I finally have to get out. To be on the safe side, best I renew the lease every 3 months I reckon, so I've always got at least 29 years 9 months left.

Renting a short time room wouldn't be my idea of heaven though. Listening to all the grunting and groaning from the other nearby ST rooms wouldn't be much fun!!

There will be a time (soon) when the government open up land ownership to foreigners. As much of the land in Thailand is owned by a select few, an influx of money from abroad can only send prices one way, and they will capitalise on that
