Microwave repairer

Hi,

This afternoon our LG microwave oven just decided to stop working!

There was no warning, no smoke, nothing. It was in the middle of doing some baked potatoes when it just stopped. It was like the power had been cut off, but everything else was still working, so it wasn't a power cut.

Any ideas where we can get it checked and repaired?

Well what to you know, the wife plugged it into the adjacent socket this morning and it works.

The puzzling thing is the original socket is fine, as the kettle and toaster are plugged in there and work fine. So there is not a blown fuse.

Anyway, hopefully that's the problem solved for now.

Perhaps poptherock might want to send me THB 1500 so that I can buy a spare one, just in case it goes on the blink again.

Maybe you had one of them Electrical Gremlins....

Couple of months back had the same thing with a Pressure Washer.
Assembled it all, plugged it in, nothing.
Spent ages checking everything, nothing
Took it to another socket, worked fine.
Brought it back to the first socket, worked fine.
Grrrrrrrrr........

We've had similar problems, it can happen when the supply voltage dips to below what is required to start up the appliance.

Had a microwave/grill go pop in the UK last year when the grill stopped working. Got a repair guy in to have a look. Cost of microwave 79 quid, cost of (proposed) repair 65 quid. No brainer.

Most consumer electrics nowadays not worth repairing as so cheap to buy new.

I had similar problem with a microwave oven. My electrically trained friends said all you can do is check if the magnetron (microwave generator) is open circuit or not. You might be able to buy a spare magnetron off the internet if there is an open circuit. Otherwise give it a decent burial.
My unit was microwave/grill/convection oven combination and something on the motherboard went pop.
I no longer buy smart oven combinations again: waste of money when one bit fails.
