I'll bring along one other person. Not a web user but a powerful guy. We might paddle in circles with him, though.

Just been to the first training session  OK, so we did nothing apart from look at the boat, drink  & talk strategy, but this was the planning session!
That boat is really long, so we need another 10 members of crew. The event will be on November 13th and will be an all day thing, but we all seem to think our team will be knocked out fairly early & we can spend the rest of the day eating, drinking & watching the fitter teams!! :D

Anybody who has some time free and fancies something different, come along - our first proper training will be next Sunday. You guys have got to be better than a mere girl (me!) haven't you? :P

If Dawn can tear herself away from 120 snapping hounds then I'm sure us fellas can do better!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the hospitality Barry

Very pleasant afternoon and yes - the boat is a monsta (Not related to Dr. Dave)

I'm sure we can find a few more like minded idiots to join in.

So the next training session ia as Dawn said next Sunday - at Barry's place for 2.00p.m.

Thanks Barry, that was an easier practise session than I had thought. I did touch the boat, though. Looking forward to next Sunday, I may even do a few paddles then.

Now we have the boat and we also met our coach/trainer/mentor.
The vessel is a magnificent one, measuring nearly 23 metres. :D

Our coach says we should ideally have a crew of around 17.
We so far have seven, so we're getting there slowly. :?

For the first training session next Sunday (meet 2 p.m. at Mermaid Cruises pier), the boat will be ready in the water with plenty of assistance on hand. 8)

My wife has also offered to prepare some tasty food for after the training session, to be washed down with amounts of amber liquid.

We have now made a definite commitment for Nov. 13.

Mermaid Cruises will sponsor the farang-team and we are fairly confident that we will have a prominent co-sponsor.

The sponsoring will cover training sessions, shirts for race day, plus free food and drink for the entire race day for team members on board "The Peacock".

So, anybody else feel like joining us! We'd be really pleased to see you next Sunday. Just post your response on this site, or send an email to or call me (04-8007400) or Terry (09-8374079) for more details. :)

If you still need additional crew, I'd like to join. I once held the bench press record at the University of California Los Angeles, so maybe I could sit opposite the powerful guy and help keep the boat from going in circles.

Hi Mestizo
That's great news - the more, the merrier.
Do you have transport? Do you know where my place is?
Look forward to seeing you on Sunday

Just an additonal note concerning transport.

If there is a problem with people not being able to get to Pak Nam Pran, we at Mermaid Cruises will be happy to send out our pick-up taxi to collect people from Hua Hin for training sessions and take them back again.

I'll post the transport arrangements here around 5 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday.

If anyone else needs collecting, please let me know before then, preferably by calling 04-8007400.

Mestizo, can you please tell me whether you have your own transport or if want to be picked up, too.

Hi JD
Good to have you along.
We're meeting at the Mermaid Cruises pier in Pak Nam Pran at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The directions are as follows:
Drive south out of Hua Hin.
Just over 12 km after the flyover, turn left (you'll see a big concrete ready-mix plant on your left in a right-hand bend just before it).

Go over the railway crossing and fork right.

After roughly 5 km, turn left (it's actually the 1st turn on the left).

After roughly 500 m, turn left again just before the bridge over the river (DON'T go straight ahead over the bridge!!)

Continue straight for just over 3 km and we're on the right.

P.S.
Once you've turned off the main road, you'll see signs for Mermaid Cruises and yellow ones for the LAWANA resort. If you follow these, you can't go far wrong.

If you do have a problem, just call me at 04-8007400 and we'll send someone to pilot you here.

Alternatively, if you want to avail of our free transport service, just let me know in good time.
