Outside running tracks in Huahin
Outside running tracks in Huahin
Is there any running tracks in Huahin (for outside running)?
How is the beach fitted for running (or is the sand to soft)?

If the sand is to soft it will be to much load on the ankle.
Re: Outside running tracks in Huahin
The main running place is in the kings Palace it has a long track in the gardens for running in the evenings.
Nabkehart road, is quite popular for running the the late afternoon, especially with Thais. It is relatively central, quiet on week days and flat and straight.
The road up to Hin Lek Fai view point, is also popular but very steep.

I jog regularly on the beach, barefoot. Its a bit hit and miss in terms of the tide, the number of kite surfers blocking way, and the amount of rubbish scattered around...overall though I find it enjoyable and relaxing.
I often jog around the streets, big problem is the high number of stray dogs. I've been known to jogging with a stick for protection from them, but maybe a stun gun is needed :-)

The beach is fine but it's tough work..
There is a hard section about 1-2m from the water. The soft section is too soft to run in.
I usually run from soi 94 to the Hilton and back up Petchkasem road. Watch your ankles and head when jogging on the streets. There are numerous bad pavement/roadworks and low hanging signs. Bit like an obstacle course I try to imagine.
Hua Hin is excellent for keeping fit providing the previous night is not to 'hedonistic'!?.

GN.

Re: Outside running tracks in Huahin
Just noticed this forum. I'm currently staying in HuaHin with my family for 9 more weeks (been here 2) Staying at a house at 1k up the Soi 106 with my wife and three kids. I'm a frequent runner from Sweden (up for my 12th marathon in Stockholm this summer), age 45 and and have had a bit difficult to find myself any good runs due to all the stray dogs. I have started to run on the larger roads even if I normally dont like running next to the traffic.
I was planning to go to the Kings Palace and check that out. What time is it open for runners and is it possible to run after dark as well?
If there are any other long distance runner who would like some company for a run or two, perhaps we could arrange something?
Regards

The King's Palace is open in the morning from 05:30 to 07:30 and in the evening, I think it is 17:00 to 19:00. You need to hand in you passport at the entrance and it is a 800m circuit.

Carry a stick. In my experience the dogs know what that means and get out of the way. The alpha dog barks, sometimes a lot, while getting out of my way. Sometimes the alpha dog is in no hurry to get out of the way, but he does walk away. After a few times through their territory they settle down but keep an eye on me.ejorris wrote: have had a bit difficult to find myself any good runs due to all the stray dogs.
I carry a 75 cm length of PVC pipe. That's not much of a weapon or a defense but the dogs don't know that. First time through their territory don't be shy about letting them see you're carrying. Also, surprising a soi dog is not a good idea. Make some noise during your approach so they notice you before you're upon them.

Re: Outside running tracks in Huahin
The treadmill appears to be helping a little... able to run further along the beach without stopping in dire need of more 02.
Not a great pace, nor distance but I blame the topless falang I seen in the sea... made my day
Might walk back and see if she's still there...
Start & finish = beach end of soi 94.
Turnabout = past the Hilton and down the road between the Hilton and soi Binta bhat.
Hope this gives an idea of distances along the beach.
Cheers,
GN.

Re: Outside running tracks in Huahin
I have been a couple of times now at Letic for my long distance runs and some fast intervall training. Today the owner(?) very politely ask me not to use the threadmills since they are expensive and my tempo/duration was probably a bit to much ; )
I was told that I could get the money back if I wanted to but I think I will do some other training. However I doubt that I will extend my 10-time pass their even if the facility is nice.
Then I probably will have to get up and start as soon as possible at morning. I havent yet used my "camelback" but I think I'll fill it with ice and water and then just head out fore some hours.
