Will the fist person who gets an English Scrabble board mnake a post on this topic and I will arrange some games.

There is another thread on Backgammon aswell if anybody is interested in that. I already have a board.

Of course there can be no money on it as gambling is illegal in Thailand and it is against my religion.

Scrabble board available.

Lets start at 5:00 PM at a suitable venue. We could always use MS Word UK dictionary of an on line dictionary if no none has a proper English. No Scottish spellings allowed though.

Tuesday at Sugar Cane 17:00 PM sound like a good starting place to me. and we will go from there.

Maybe start a ladder or something like that or keep just for fun. Compete over a beer maybe.

Looks like we will have to kick off with mil_dos and Jockey then.

Let me know if 5:00 PM tomorrow is OK.

I'd better warn you all though that I have been practising on the Yahoo 30 day triail version and managed a high two hundred.

I wonder if Mattel, or whoever owns the Scrabble TM these days makes games in non-roman character alphabets? Thai being one. Now that would be a test of a farang's knowledge of passa Thai for sure.

I think the board would have to be much bigger as well to accomodate 20 character words. Pete

I was going to post some typically sarcastic comment about how unlikely that would be but thought better of it. After a little googling I discovered that Scrabble (known as Crossword in Thailand) is huge in LoS and is even taught in schools! The Thai version has 114 tiles but most Thai players prefer to use the English version as playing in Thai is apparently very difficult. The current US English language champion is Thai! There are also other non-Roman versions.

Jaime has said it all.

My wife always buys books where the are full of word and number quizzes. Some are Scrabble like. Also I have seen sets in Thailand but I doubt if they are made bt Mattel.

For those who like to play on a leisurely basis try this link:

http://www.thepixiepit.co.uk/scrabble/

I have a friend several hundred miles away and this allows us to play. Make sure you agree on a dictionary before you start.

Have fun.
