Apparently many of the western pubs use them in Bangkok. I have no personal knowldge if they are good or not.

Whilst not trying to do any of the local suppliers out of business, it often helps to have some healthy competition so I emailed the Sausage King company and received the following information.

This sounds more like madness than healthy competition to me. If local suppliers meet your needs, why pay delivery costs for a bulk order, when you don't even know what you're buying?

Looking at the prices, they are very comparable with Hua Hin Ham & Bacon, but at least you don't have storage problems by having to clog your freezer up with potentially not such good food, no risk of the food going bad en-route, you get served by a human being, and no delivery costs.

Certainly, if I were in the UK and heard that McTavish of Aberdeen sold bread for a few pence cheaper than my local supermarket, I wouldn't consider ordering on-line. What happens if your local supplier stops selling the product because you've saved 5 Baht, but McTavish goes bankrupt? A lose/lose situation - as I said, madness.

Support your local businesses - they are there when you need them.

BB, in no way was I was promoting this company, all I was doing was providing some research to our readers on what the delivery was should they wish to consider purchasing something on the list, that might not be available from one of the local suppliers. I thought that was one of the aims of the forum, ask a question and get an answer?

I started this thread to provide options for items not available in HH, not as any competition to HH Ham & Bacon. These companies appear to be operated by expats. Stuff from Tesco, Makro and Big C is good, but where does that money go? Just providing a few more options for that special something you crave, but can't find in HH. PS - Where can I find VEGEMITE?

I agree with the overall sentiment that we should all support our local businesses however difficult that that is becoming with the likes of Tesco, HomePro, Thai Watsadu, Power King, Makro etc being widely available and used. Whilst they may not actually benefit the local economy directly, indirectly they create jobs and some may think a easier and more convenient place to live.

However the internet and on-line shopping are here to stay. Admittedly Thailand lags behind many countries in the adoption of on-line shopping. Even our sponsors Hua Hin Ham and Bacon realise this and have their own website and no doubt will arrange delivery if the quantity is right.

Personally I will always try to support the local economy unless the particular product or service I am looking for does not exist, is overpriced or of inferior quality. None of which applies to our sponsor and I am very happy to shop there by choice.

I also agree. Coming from Kent in the UK where they grow a wide range of apples, farmers have to compete with various cheap imports, lots of them of little flavour and of course many of them have gone out of business as a result. Oh for a Cox's Orange Pippin in HH!!

To answer your question DM, I've tried sausages (Cumberland) from Nab Thong - very good, HH Ham and Bacon - sausages and bacon, both frozen and ok, not tried Makro's sausages or bacon. I buy ham from Villa Market or Tescos or the German restaurant opposite Mr Dan and they are all good.

As with so many things in life, food especially, what one person likes, another may dislike hence the benefit of variety, which as they say, is the spice of life!!

There are some really good sausages at Naab Thong, HH Ham & Bacon and Macro - have you tried all these and found them wanting?

I have purchased sausages and bacon from HH Ham and Bacon. Both are frozen but ok. I now prefer to buy sausages from Makro, which I like the best so far, they have bacon as well (smoked and unsmoked Wiltshire Back bacon) but I find that it has high water content. Ham I buy from Villa.
