Tea

Post by PeteC »

I do enjoy a good cup or two on a rainy afternoon here, but over here I can only find Lipton Yellow Label and Twinings. I drink it with no milk or sugar and the Lipton tends to be tart, and the Twinings English Breakfast tea tends to be a bit drab (sorry guys).

The other Twinings like Earl Grey and the ones with fruit in it are not for me. Their Irish Breakfast Tea is very good IMHO, but it's not here.

Some guy over here must have gotten his hands on several cases of Tetley (sp), as he was selling it in the classifieds for about 300 baht for a box of 100 bags. Is Tetley really that good? Do they have it available in HH?

Anyway, interested to hear some opinions and advice from the Brits concerning some good fermented teas. We can leave the green teas alone, have many of them from Japan and China also but not good everyday. Thanks. Pete

Pete

I drink my tea - lots - the same as you, black, with no sugar. Refreshing as anything. I'm a PG tips man myself and I'd be interested to learn if that is available in LOS? Thats a common "big" brand in the UK. I keep trying others for a change but always end up back with good old PG. I believe its a blend of Ceylon and Kenyan teas, but these days there are plantations everywhere. The original Co. started in 1869, in Ceylon, I believe? But its now part of Unilever.

Twinings in the UK now have an "all day" tea and there is an afternoon version as well, both are passable.

I have to say I like a tea I can get in Oz, which I did see in HH, but I'm racking my brain for the name? Maybe Chelsea can volunteer some brands and I'll be able to name it.

Tetlys is a popular "big" brand in the UK. Solid everyday drinking, just doesn't do it for me.

I think as in beer, the water makes a difference too. In London we have "hard" water and I think my favourite brand tastes "softer", less of a bite elsewhere, but that just might be my imagination!

Good luck with your quest.

We Brits. Tend to drink our tea with milk so you need a stronger brew. The teas you get in most parts of the world tend to be weak by comparison. Generally, we prefer the mainstream brands such as Typhoo, PG Tips, and Tetleys. I’m sure you will realize that we drink a lot of the stuff and most expats will kill for any of the home brands. Its not that they are better, it is just what we are used to.

Caller I drink coffee most of the time, but the ones that my GF drinks are Dilmah or Nerada. You can also get all sorts of Twinings, Tetleys & more recently PG Tips, plus all sorts of Chinese and herbal teas.

Caller, it seems that you can now buy Dilmah Tea in the UK, go to this site and have a look. I have looked at the tea thay have listed, and as far as I can remember it is the Premium Tea that we get in Australia.

Now you can have a decent cup of tea. I am sure if you go to some of the more upmarket supermakets or Deli's in the Uk, that you should be able to buy it there now.

Chelsea - thanks for that, the only place I've seen it in the UK was at Somerfields - certainly not at the top end of the market, and it was only loose, rather than bagged.

But I'll check out the website you have provided a link to. I did like it.

Yes agreed but as it says it is a breakfast tea. The English tea drinkiing connoseurs drink different tea in the morning from the afternoon just as the French do with coffee.

The ones mentioned are the best i.e Typhoo, PG Tips and Tetley. It is still usually better to get the unbagged stuff and brew it in a pot with a strainer. The brewing part is important aswell. Is is also a company in the Royal, Sacred and Hallowed area of London known worldwide as Chelsea. I can n ot remember the name but they are expensive but have a superb range of teas.

There are more available in Malaysia and Singapore if anybody gets down there.

I still reckon this site could have wish list forum where people who want something imported can post a request and someone who is visiting can deliver. When people ask me what they can bring back for me I can never remember.

Good idea, Guess

I'm down to my last half dozen Typhoo tea bags, so, if anyone's visiting from UK...

Well count me in for some pyramids. I will start th girls of the three months training course now.

Sorry to be pedantic here now but don't you think it might be the right time now to change your company name mow.

Firstly the Ham Bacon and Meat bit. Ham and bacon are just two different kinds of curred pork. Both of these are meat.

It is a bit like calling my bar the Hua Hin Heineken, Tiger and beer bar.

Now how about all you nice people giving JD some ideas for a name change. BTW if it is a problem over company registrstrion I can get you over that one.

Probably not a good idea to use PWEEETA in the name as well as this organision has terrorist and Naxi connections and are known speciiesists..

As an old Yorkshireman I remember getting tea in tea chests. Giant boxes covered inside with silver paper. My old man who lived to be 99 drank gallons everyday. Mind you he'd break at lunchtime to go to the pub for a few gills!!!

I'm now weaned onto Thai tea and enjoy it especially as it's free in the market at 6am in the morning!!!

There's the yorkshireman coming through

You know what say about a Yorkshireman? 'He's a scot stripped of his generosity'

Seriously though I love the Thai herbal teas available

I'd heard that a Keighley Virgin was a 14 year old who could run faster than her uncle!

PS: I see you're from Halifax, so I'm sure you'll take no offense at my unprovoked attack on Keighley!
