RICHARD OF LOXLEY
It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

You only live once.
Re: Health Info Video for retirees
I apologize for thinking that it was new to the forum, but not for drawing attention to it.
I like the contents and also the style--the visuals certainly help fix the text in your mind .
It is important in Patient info like this not sound too preachy and I think he manages this well

Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten it.Dr Mike wrote:I apologize for thinking that it was new to the forum, but not for drawing attention to it.

What I particularly like is the simplicity of the message. It is too easy to become confused by jargon and all the possible solutions, often contradictory.
The Hippocrates comment reminded me of an Indian story, which has a similar message..
There was once an Indian King who had 100 physicians. One of them was due to retire, so they sent the word out for a replacement. Many applicants came, who had to answer one question from each of the King's physicians. No-one could answer all of them correctly. Finally one man stepped forward and answered all 100 questions. The King was delighted and gave him the job. The man responded..
"Before I take the job, I would like to ask each of your 100 physicians one question."
The King agreed.
"What are the two most important things needed for good health?"
None of the physicians could answer.
Finally, the King said... "What are they?"
"A walk in the morning and an hour in the sunshine."
The King was so delighted with this, he fired all the other physicians. This Doctor apparently went on to become quite famous in India.

I often feel that 'Big Pharma" the pharmaceutical industry although far from being totally innocent gets more criticism than it deserves, but this video does make the valid point that little research is done into methods that are not going to produce a product to be sold and generate income for the group paying for the research.
This video promotes less rather than more medication use and the message is rarely broadcast.

WEDNESDAY WANDERERS
This is a Health Information piece on youtube--I cannot attach it on this page so that it opens.
Go to youtube and search 23 and 1/2 hours: and it will come up.
It is By Dr Mike Evans a Prof of Family Medicine at the Univ of Toronto.
I think it is simple, direct and not at all preachy.
He makes the point that seldom are things investigated that do not lead to a sellable product.
There is evidence that physical activity is as helpful as many medications, but nobody promotes it.
Look at the video and tell me what you think.
This other Dr Mike recommends the simple act of walking for 30mins a day to improve
your cardio-vascular health.
I am thinking of doing something about this-- creating a morning walking group, one
morning a week where we will meet, same time, same place, minimal planning,no organising
committee, no dues.
I was thinking Wednesday morning 9.30 on the corner near the Police station, post office, Hagi's restaurant/ Pizza de Roberto's. and walk on the beach (tide allowing) for 30-40 mins--Good companionship to make the time pass quickly.
