Why would you say that?
Fake experiences are often planted. They aren't really genuine sufferers but agents on commission trying to push a product. You learn to spot them.

Gout, specifically, is the inability of a body to metabolise the amino acid Purine. It has been much less of an issue since the development of Allopurinol, some time in the 60's. Rarely, some people can have bad reactions to Allopurinol (I am one of them!) but it is in general very safe and very effective.

Gout attacks can also occur for other reasons. There is growing interest in the influence of fructose in Hyperuricemia (elevated Uric acid levels which can lead to gout attacks). Fructose is beginning to look like the bad boy in a lot of 'modern' conditions. You may have a great diet, but I suggest googling 'fructose and gout' and seeing if there is anything you can learn from that. You can also google for purine rich foods - they aren't always the 'bad' foods you might expect them to be.

By the time we stop eating certain foods to prevent gout, and we stop eating certain other foods to prevent heart attacks, and we stop other foods to prevent strokes, there's bugger all left for us to eat.

No meat (bad for you)
No fish (heavy metal contamination)
Not too much fruit (too much sugar)
No dairy (bad for you)
Not too much rice (low nutritional value)
Not too potato (too much starch)
Watch what vegetables you eat (high purine = gout risk)

So, we're left with water, and of course we can't trust that nowadays either. :(

I can only speak for myself, but I would rather live as a human for 50 years, than live as a rabbit for 150 years.

Anyone for some bacon, fried eggs, mushrooms in garlic butter, fried bangers, toast and butter? None for me thank you. I'll rather have 3 slices of cucumber, a slice of tomato, some lettuce, and a delicious glass of water.

Me too but I wonder if you will be saying that when you are breathing through a hole in your throat and the medics have stripped you of your wealth in the last two years of your life?

A big problem is that you are fighting a food industry which has seduced your taste buds. Their 'junk' tastes good!

It doesn't need to be an either/or choice. Look at the Thais. They seem to break every nutritional rule in the book. As far as I can see, the ones that stay slim and healthy have a plate of greens alongside their chilled Pepsi. I see the greens as being protective. They are the 'clean-up' crew. They balance blood sugar, stimulate the liver, clean the blood and more.

I eat 'junk' every now and again and only resort to more strict regimes in order to recover my health. Once I'm better my diet is about 85% healthy and 15% debatable. Our bodies need some rubbish to build up resistance and no-one invites you to dinner if you are too fanatical.

I think it is possible to have your cake and eat it. You just need to learn how to do it.

Sarge. You continue to flame in blatant breach of forum rules.
IT WAS YOUR LINK MrP

Since when is highlighting a link posted by you yourself in detail been flaming
If you dont want pertinant points raised on it then dont post them
and the disclaimer on health-related sites, as far as I know, is a legal requirement.
I wonder why
ACV has been done to death on this forum in the past obviously you will say there are new members who were not around then well that applies to me as well

Back to topic
Tried water all yesterday By 1800 hrs i expected to post this in the news section i would have committed genocide for a nice cup of yorkshire tea milk no sugar
Got up and peed twice last night and this morning stiff joints but no pain a short 20 km bike ride with the missus and stiffness gone.
Obviously a bit more time to see if it returns but it seems i am going in the right direction and nothing i have done could even vaguely cause me any damage.

Somebody should have scared you a long time ago and you wouldn't have had the health problems you had.

As I do not start something and not finish it I have decided to post this as I do NOT want to in any way mislead people

Having tried water mineral drinks and changed my regime I am afraid the symptoms returned.
Time to go and see a doctor
If the diagnosis is wrong then you cannot cure it simple as that

My self diagnosis was wrong

At the hospital I had my BP taken
My pulse was taken
My weight was taken
My temperature was taken

I was then asked what medications I was on (BE honest with this one as I was )
10 Mg Betalol
10Mg Aspirin
20Mg Analpril
10Mg simmvastatin

taken in the morning

all questions and tests taken before seeing the doctor something alt practitioners seem not to need to dish out their particular medications / remedys

A short wait in to see the doc
I gave him my symptoms pain in all my joints and fingers every morning and swollen ankles
why are you taking Simmvastatin in the morning he asked
I told him I kept forgetting at night so decided to change to the morning so I would only have to think once

Take the simmvastatin in the evening he said and sent me for a blood test
We went home and later in the afternoon went back its ok its your cholesterol levels just take the statin before you go to bed

Three days now and absolutely no problem

I apologise if anyone has been mislead but I was sure it was gout

But that's exactly what you are doing.

No wonder you have no confidence in alt med if this is your belief. These are basic tests and questions any responsible alt practitioner would conduct or wish to see.
its ok its your cholesterol levels just take the statin before you go to bed
It's a curious kind of medicine that sickens you in the morning and perks you up at night. :? I found this explanation as to why it is necessary and there is no mention of the adverse effects you experienced. The study numbers (25 and 60 patients) were small, which might be why.

http://www.medicine.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/ ... ttime.html

The comment which may be of interest to you, at the bottom, says... 'One trial using atorvastatin found no differences with morning and evening dosing, which may be explained by its longer half life.' Just a thought but you could ask your Doctor if atorvastatin is worth a try.

I'm unqualified and all that but this GP's medical reference mentions possible side effects of statins... http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage.cfm?ID=221577285 '...adverse effects such as itching, rash, myalgia, arthralgia, insomnia'.

The definition of 'arthralgia' seems to match your symptoms.

Apple Cider Vinegar with the 'Mother' and baking soda ranks highest. Please report back if something works for you.
Mr Plum

Thanks for the link, been taking ACV for over a year, after advice from you but never heard of the baking soda trick.

Will give it a try and report back.

The main thing is I have not yet got gout, just want to make sure I don't get it.

I have a blood test booked in early September, so I will see if my levels have gone down.

Cheers. :thumb:

Sarge Off topic I know.

I started on Simvastatin but for some reason could not tolerate it and moved onto 40mg Atorvastatin (at night) amongst many other drugs taken AM. Could it be that most statins work mainly on the liver which may work harder at night, I don't know for sure.

You are on very low dose of statin so I would expect that your cholesterol levels are very low.

What is the 10mg Asprin for? that seems such a low dose, lowest I have ever heard of is 25mg.

My tip, for what it is worth, drink at least 4ltrs of water a day and pee as often as possible. As for those re-hydration drinks they are almost worthless. They were handing them out at the marathon but those in the know, just took the water bottles.
Saw a programme the other night on them, just hype from the manufacturers, no real evidence offered by the manufactures that they do anything. Water is just as good and a damn site cheaper.
Sports scientists said that you would have to run a marathon every day of the week before they would do you any good, most people just do not do enough exercise to get any benefit from them.

Drink water before you are thirsty, don't wait until you are thirsty and dehydrated, it's too late by then.

Good luck with your meds.
