The BKK Hospital is considered by most to be the best hospital in HH, although you pay a pretty price for the service if you don't have medical insurance.Bruce wrote:As a new member can anyone advise on the quality of BKK hospital as I understand it's the newest.....

I assume you are referring to Villa Market which is a medium size supermarket specialising in western food (as well as Thai). Many of the food items are reasonable price, but some foods are quite expensive, so you may want to use it only for those items you can't get elsewhere. If you are travelling from HH centre towards Khao Takiab, it is on the right hand side just before the St Paulo Hospital (not many people recommend it) and the Grand Market.
Re: Best Hospital in HH?
I personally have no quibble with BKK Hospital for hospital services. I'm currently being treated twice daily as an outpatient, and I find the costs very reasonable. In fact I have been surprised at how cheap they are.
The only problem I find with BKK Hospital is the price of their medication. I've been issued with 3 sets of medication over recent days, at a cost of around 2,000 Baht each time. When we compared what my wife recently paid for medication at BKK Hospital with exact same medication from a pharmacy, the cost at BKK Hospital was 13 times greater.
I guess they've got to make their money somewhere.

Big Boy, in that case, why not buy the medication from a pharmacy? I don't see how the hospital can object, as you've paid for the diagnosis and the prescription - where you buy the medication they've prescribed is surely 'up to you'?
Re: Best Hospital in HH?
That is something we do for follow-up medication (hence we know how much cheaper it was for my wife). With the initial medication, they tend to get you to drop a pill immediately, and then you find the entire prescription on your bill when you pay.

Confirmed at both Pattaya and Bangkok facilities. Medications are through the roof and many times the prescription and billing info goes to the payment area via nurse or electronically before you're even out of the doctors office, and the bill and pills are waiting for you. They have the system down well to get you to buy at least the first filling through them.Big Boy wrote:.....The only problem I find with BKK Hospital is the price of their medication. Another thing to watch out for are follow up visits. Assess yourself and simply don't go if you don't feel the need. They will give you an appointment for one for just about any ailment you go in for....and of course try to refill your meds at the same time. Pete

Re: Best Hospital in HH?
I have a few niggling concerns about Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, but the bottom line is that I prefer to give them my business.
Overpriced is an understatement when it comes to medication, and as mentioned, you can get most of them at outside pharmacies. (Obvious ones that you cannot get outside are opiates and certain tranquilizers like diazapan or oxycodon.)
Problem is with medications administered within the hospital. I recently decided to get the series of rabies shots. I had heard that in Pattaya they were about B700 in farang hospitals, but only about B300 in clinics. After inquiring about the existence of any clinics here in HH now that Polyclinic closed, I decided to just get the shots a Bangkok Hospital: B735 plus B150 nursing fee, so B885 per shot!

On the two occasions I've had treatment at BKK hospital, I asked the doctor during the consultation to write down the names of the medications I needed and informed him that I would purchase them elsewhere - no problem!
On one occasion when tablets nonetheless turned up at the cashier's desk, I checked and told them that I didn't want them and they then redid the bill.
They tend to ask for the money before they print the bill.
It is important to ask them for the bill and check everything on it first before you hand over the cash.

In fact both the Rutnin eye hospital and Petcharat hospital have always listed the medication needed and advised me to buy from a pharmacy. In house medication you can do nothing about but buying at a pharmacy can save you a lot of money

Re: Best Hospital in HH?
I can definatley recommend BBK Hua Hin however they are very expensive.
Hope this isn't classed as too far off topic. Any suggestions for medical insurance. I was previously covered by my company now have private one year in hospital only cover with April of France. I am now finding out patient and medicines are costing me the earth.
Any suggestions for local insurance for in and outpatient cover? using expat insurance is just to expensive.

We used Matt at AA Insurance. When my son fell ill earlier this year, the insurance paid up no problem, and Matt was a great help when the hospital started playing silly buggers. A very personal service from Matt.
