A jury last year found him guilty in his absence of 15 counts of sexual abuse but it was only now, following his extradition from Thailand, that he was sentenced.
Judge Patrick Curran QC told the court Ali had groomed the vulnerable youngster by making her watch pornographic films with him.
The court heard the abuse he inflicted on his victim escalated until she finally built up the courage to report him.
Ali was first arrested in 2008 and was bailed ahead of his trial later that year but just days before the case was due to be heard he flew to Thailand.
Despite marrying a Thai woman while he was there, he later claimed he had intended to return for his trial but was unable to fly home after a corrupt official had stolen his passport and had demanded £500 for its return.
For four years Ali remained “at large” before police tracked him down and, after spending six months in a Thai prison, was finally extradited back home.
Sentencing Ali to nine years behind bars, Judge Curran QC told him: “You were careful to groom her, convincing her that what you were doing was normal.
He added: “It is no exaggeration to say that you ruined her life.
“What you did mounted to a campaign of sex abuse against her.”
The court heard how, since realising the horrific nature of Ali’s crimes, his young victim repeatedly self harmed and even on one occasion attempted to take her own life.
Ali was told he would have to serve at least half of his sentence before being considered for release and would have to sign the sex offender’s register for life.
Following the case, his victim’s mother, criticised the court for granting Ali bail after his arrest.
“If he was not allowed to leave the country this would all have been dealt with years ago,” she said.
“It has added more stress and anxiety and it makes me angry because the authorities were warned that he was going to leave yet they did nothing.
“They had a chance to stop him and they let him go.”
