London Olympics 2012

Post by pharvey »

Well, off to a great start with the flag fiasco in Scotland (still think it was a p*ss-take myself), Team GB getting a few bruises and a draw against Senegal..... :D

Anyone staying up for the opening ceremony? Has got to be worth a laugh, although can't remember the last time I stayed up until 4am to begin watching a comedy act.

Going to be a proud moment or a please hide me, "head in the hands" cringing one? Actually, I truly hope it's going to be the former and a great show...... just can't see me getting to watch it live!!

Anyone of the UK based forum members getting anywhere close?

I'm watching it but i'm in England and it's on at 9. There was a very brief preview from the last practice on the news last night, some of it was a bit "jazz hands" but 1 part with cyclists going around a very dark stadium with flapping , lit up wings on their back looked awesome.

A few journos who'd seen most of it were all over twitter saying it's amazing and some of those journos are more cynical than me.

Danny Boyle is in charge of it, it should be great.

I'm sure it will be all over the internet via youtube or download tomorrow anyway.

I was looking forward to seeing it but Mrs.A and her cronies have arranged for us all to go and see Demis Roussos in concert. I thought he was dead.

I woke up and decided to watch some of it. I saw from the "industrial revolution" segment to the queen jumping out of a helicopter  , the Olympic rings going up and bursting into fireworks...and a bit more. What I saw was very well done. Hats off :thumb: Pete

Two choices here to keep up to speed on events and results:

1) The Telegraph UK site: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympi ... pics-live/

2) NBC's site: http://www.nbcolympics.com/

I've just finished watching the opening ceremony on my +6 service. I thought it was very good with 2 exceptions:

- Mohammed Ali - what was that all about. I felt very sad for the guy. A man who has been such a great warrior, being displayed to the world being help upright by what I presume was his carer. Very, very sad.

- Paul McCartney - what can I say? Well past his sell by date.
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

Opening Ceremony .... 10 out of 10.

Sandys take: Great fun, even if it did leave me wishing I had dropped acid first :rasta: Some lovely touches as well, like having some of the builders of the stadia lining the entrance, the poppies, and an appearance by my hero I K Brunel.

Sandys suggestions: Only one possible improvement - they could have got all those people who made up the NHS logo to then transition swiftly into a big display of F U MITT!!!!!
