Latest Topics List

Post by Jaime »

I think it would be useful if the links on the Latest Topics List, at the bottom right hand corner, could direct one straight to the most recent page in that thread, rather than the first page as it currently does.

I'd second that - its a pain having to enter a thread, and then have to select what page you want to read.

Well it is not as if it is difficult or long to do. Just one click of the mouse.
Think of it as a bit of finger exercise !

It can be a real pain if you're in a hurry, or if your connection speed is slow.

No its not rocket science, but IT technology is supposed to make our lives easier. Jaime's suggestion was good. If you consider the number of uneccessary accessions some of these pages get, there's an awful lot of time being wasted in this world. The 13 pages of 'Foreigners can no longer buy houses in Thailand via company.' have had 9,249 viewings for example. Most people want to view the latest postings. I'd be surprised if more than 10% of those accessions were actually interested in page 1.

C'mon KD, Jaime's suggestion was good- don't knock it.

I always remember being taught by my CAD instructor that the objective should be to achieve the desired end result in as few mouse clicks as possible. One click is therefore better than two, especially if your connection speed is slow, as BB stated. The whole point of a Latest Topics lists is surely that it is a short cut? Trouble is it doesn't take you directly to the latest posts, which defeats the object of it IMHO.

I might be taking at cross purposes here, but if you're logged in and go to the first page on the forum, then I think you'll see what you want.
"View posts since last visit". No messing around then.

Thanks Lomu but it doesn't get to the crux of the problem, which is speed, as you have to log in to do that first. The Latest Topics list is also a bit of an anomaly in that it seems to be the only link to a thread that doesn't take you directly to the latest post.

So, as I posted above, when is a shortcut not a shortcut? A: When it's a HHAD latest topics list!

This is not a criticism for its own sake but this is the part of the board where ideas to improve the use and experience of the forum are posted right?

Have I missunderstood something?

Wasn't the idea that you click the topic link if you want to see the thread or you click the "latest post" symbol (black arrow pointing to a white page) if you've read the thread before and want to see - that's right - the latest post.

On my computer it has been like that for a long time and nothing is different now, or...? :?

Gutte,

How right you are.....................I'd seen those little symbols and wondered what they were. Well done.

Yeah - everybody's happy! It's just that I'm happy and confused, because for me nothing has changed. I look and look but can't find anything new. What am I missing? The risk of missing out on something good can almost make me...not as happy. :|

Gutte,

Don't worry you're not missing out on anything. Those symbols had been there for quite a while - its just that some of us were too thick to realise what they were for.
