Re: Which Pick-Up Truck?

Post by fach3003 »

Hi all,

after a few years of driving around in a heap of a old truck
(reliable and tuff as nails mind )
decided it about time to get a new truck....
ie told the missus youll not see me in a Fiesta so tuff !

So a ranger is on the cards.....
Had a good look at the dealers....I was offered a test drive
but was rushing back for the school run etc etc......

the woman there talked the deal over....
mentioned they would include a plastic liner and some mats....
does this sound good enough ?
Wonder what i could stretch them too without taking the mick

They didnt have price list for the offical accessories to hand ( odd )
I like the rear roll over bar....: )

Need a test drive as i dont know if an 2.2 auto is a good idea or not?

The other thing when i asked her how much discount ( if any )
she would offer if i paid in full.....she started rambling about
h ow great the finance deal where and how i wouldnt get the free insurance......
(only worth 20-25K anyhow ) mind the finance deals do seem cheap....interest wise...
Suppose it all about commission etc...

Just working out whats best for me : )

Coz after your house its the next biggest one !

Dont even ask me about what colour hahaha

Regards to all

Fach, before you sign up on the Ranger, do a price comparison with the Mazda BT50. Is a model share between Ford & Mazda and basically the same vehicle. Here in Aus they have just bought out a new 5 Cylinder Diesel 3.2l.
Not sure if available in LOS, but if they are, then you are in a great position to be able to get a great deal on the old run out models as the dealers will not want old stock on the floor when the new models turn up.

Just one word of advice regarding getting a good price, never mention at any time until the price is decided that you are in a position to pay cash. Dealers automatically assume that you will want finance and the deal will be tailored towards that type of deal.
The dealer will make less money from a cash deal than getting you in a 3-5 or 7 year finance deal. Dealers make very little profit on new cars, all profits are in add on's like finance, vehicle insurance, after care packs etc.

Normally once the price is agreed, the next words from the salesperson is lets go and see the finance officer. If you feel it is a good deal and want to pay cash, that is the time to show your hand, never before. Once the price is agreed, they cannot go back on it.

Good luck anyway, have heard of very little problems with either the Ranger or BT50 over here, so hopefully you will get a good deal.

I did, and the Mazda was considerably more expensive (70,000 Baht) for basically the same beast. Longer lead time, and no insurance thrown in.

You are right the Mazda is more expensive than the Ford and if you are looking at the Mazda very few have ABS. The older model is really old hat. On older trucks in the wet you can easily loose the back end on braking at speed if you are not careful. Now they have incorporated the technology from cars i.e.. The new Ranger and Isuzu they are a lot better.Thats why in the USA they are not happy as they are not getting the Ranger they have to make do with the F-150
The 2.2 engine is well tested in cars and is a cracking engine. It is just a little slower than the 3.o litre but in my opinion a lot smoother and more economical and not an issue when overtaking. I am at the moment driving an Everest 3.00 litre so easy to compare the engines.
As far as the extras when you want to buy it's no different than buying in the UK sort out what you want make a list then haggle with them. The liner and insurance are standard anyone can get. You can get more.

A friend of mine had bought a new Navara Calibre recently and it seems pretty good. It's a standard 2WD pick up but has some styling that makes it look a bit more like a 4X4 and it's pretty well fitted out. I haven't driven it so I don't know how it performs but it does look quite attractive and the interior wasn't bad.

I don't see the side step rail as an option so assume standard. That's good as it will save your back getting in if a step rail is there. The only other exterior things I would recommend are the bonnet protector, weather shield, front mud flaps and the bed rail cover if not included with the bed liner they gave you. Pete

Well Pete, you obviously meant well, but there is no way I can get the accessories list to display. I'm just going round and round in circles. :banghead:

If you go to the showroom and get the Ford Ranger catalogue or go online to the Ford website you will see the accessories but they don't tell you about diamond waxing the exterior and underseal. I rate these important in hot climates to preserve the the car in as new condition. The side rail is standard Looks as though they copied the Nissan. Looks a lot classier than the standard board.

Thanks for that link Steve G. Me and the wife are moving out to Cha Am in about 3 weeks and will be looking to purchase a double cab pick up, it's a toss up between a Toyota Vigo or Nissan Navara, the mother in law has a vigo and it's quite nice to drive but speaking to a mate of mine here in the UK who's owned both he reckons the Navara is much better quality in terms of build and driving comfort. Guess I'll have to see who can do me the best deal with our budget of around 750,000 - 800,000.

The Ranger seems really popular right now and admittedly it looks good but Ford would really of needed to make some great steps in terms of drive and build quality for me to want to own one of these. I bought a brand new one in the UK about 8 years ago and didn't like it at all !

Cheers

I don't know what's up with that BB. I just clicked the above link again and it took me to it. Try this other link for the main Ranger page and find accessories listed to the right. Maybe you can get there that way. Pete  http://www.ford.co.th/en/trucks/new-ranger

Started off good - went straight to the Ranger page. However, as soon as I clicked on accessories, I got that irritating page where you don't get anything until you choose your language. I choose English, and get either a Fiesta or Focus page up .......................... then the annoying looping around starts :cuss: :banghead: :banghead:

I tried the link provided by Pete.
When you press the button for accessories; instead of choosing language, edit the web address line and remove the exterior part to this; http://www.ford.co.th/en/trucks/new-ranger/accessories
It works fine then.

Another way seems to be to go to the main site and select your language from there. Then mouse over "trucks" and you'll see the Ranger picture. Then click and hopefully all will be OK from there. http://www.ford.co.th/ Pete
