Amazing Nature
Re: Amazing Nature
The same picture, along with the story of the discovery of that Giant Oarfish on Corronado Island, can be found spread over pages 20 and 21 of the US Navy's "All Hands" magazine of April 1997. You can download it here, although you get the whole magazine and it's over 17MB:

I imagine that someone in the military first produced the Thai version as a practical joke and it's spread from there.

And to get back more on to the original topic, this is apparently the only time that a Giant Oarfish has been filmed in it's natural habitat:

Makes me homesick!
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Shark eats shark in reef kill
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/br ... reef-kill/
Rare evidence of a shark eating another in the Great Barrier Reef has surfaced.
Environmental journal Coral Reefs has published an image showing a wobbegong shark eating a brown-banded bamboo shark at Great Keppel Island.
Staff at Coral Reefs spotted the opportunistic kill during a study of the area and said the sight was a rare occurrence.
"During the 30-minute observation period, neither shark moved position and the wobbegong did not further ingest the bamboo shark," the journal said.
"We assume that it would have taken at least several more hours for the wobbegong to completely consume the bamboo shark."

Another post on the Northern Lights...... sorry, it's a favorite
This time time-lapse images from the ISS.
Nasa release time-lapse images of Northern Lights seen from space
Stunning new images of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, have been released by Nasa after they were captured by the International Space Station.
The US space agency has taken numerous images of the Northern Lights over the years, but these are the first "moving" pictures ever seen.
Made by combining hundreds of photographs taken by digital cameras on-board the International Space Station, the results are some of the clearest, highest resolution images of space ever seen.

Re: Amazing Nature
I was lucky enough to see them many times in the past, from 35,000 feet. I used to take the Pan Am night flight from San Francisco to London often back in the 80's. It flew the Northern route and if you sat on the left side of the plane you could enjoy the show for more than an hour. Spectacular indeed!pharvey wrote:Another post on the Northern Lights...... sorry, it's a favorite![]()
