Pick Me A Hotel Lads!

Evening all

Last time I was by this way was last September when I visited HH for around a week and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Don't listen to the planks that flame this board - thanks to the Forum, I met a couple of good people down in Hua Hin and knew my way around the scene thanks to some excellent postings. Nice work Lev...

Anyway, I'll be back again in around 3-4 weeks time and have a booking at the Anantara Resort - which is fine - but I am also looking to book a few nights in one of these other hotels: Sofitel, Hilton, Marriott and
Evason.

I was in the Hilton bar many times (well, every night late on to be honest!) but don't know much about the hotel. If someone was picking up the tab, WHICH ONE would you guys pick and are they all guest friendly?

PS I would ask if anyone wants to meet for a glass or ten of Chang but I doubt I could handle the massive amount of messages!

Groover - hi,

Usually people are only too happy to help.

I am not over familiar with the other Hotels (I really rate the Anantara though).

Can I suggest that you use the search facility, above, for these other hotels. I think there's been a fair amount posted this year! (apologies if you've tried this - I'm not trying to patronise)

Hi Groover, not that I didn't want to reply.....just that those spots are a bit out of my price range!!!! Having strolled around the mentioned Hotels, if I had to pick, it would be the Sofitel, atmosphere seems a bit warmer than the rest. Had a couple of drinks at the Marriot on evening last January, and the mossys nearly ate me alive.....if thats a consideration. Sure you will love Anantara

Right Pete, (I have read those comments but have short memory...) guess I shouldn't comment on places that I have only "breezed" thru, as it is not my 5000 baht that gets wasted on a lesst than expected stay. I'll keep to coments on the accommodation I have stayed at in the future !!!

I have no first hand experience either. Sofitel just sticks in my mind as I had a quick squint at it in April, discussed in a PM with Isabella, who took me to task as I said that it reminded me of Disneyworld (Unreal looking & crap service!).

Just a sad sod me!

Hi Hi marra

I stayed at the Marriott a couple of weeks ago, (check this link left by someone else http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... =1771#1771 ) to give you a good idea of the overall feeling for the place. The hotel seems to be linked in some way to the Anatara as they advertise each others facilities, and I assume the services will probably be of similar high standard without being obtrusive. The room (similar in layout to most Marriott & Holiday Inn types of hotel) was excellent in terms of dÃ©cor and service, with daily cleaning and your bed turned down on an evening and flowers placed on the beds. This included the wifes nighty being laid very decoratively on the bed, and they even knocked out a couple of swans from towels on occasion. All of which is very romantic and appreciated by the wife.
The food is excellent with a choice of four themed restaurants. These can be considerably more expensive and a little less substantial than in town (especially Sea Food) but comparable to the Hilton and other Resort Hotels in the area. The hotel does have some special offers for guests, which can make the restaurants a very good option considering the surroundings and service.
The atmosphere has a QUIET & relaxed family sort of feel to it, which is all very well if thatâ€™s what you want, and I was treating the wife to something different. However next time I think I would consider a slightly more FUN type of place, but the impression I got from the Sofitel is that they are similar with the Hilton seeming to be the slightly more lively of all. Then again you are only 10 minutes from town by foot.
The hotel did have two afternoon happy hours, and the late bar closes at 12:00 â€“ 12:30am, leaving the mini-bar as your only option if home early.
As for the hotel being guest friendly, I would think NOT due to its Business Class - Family Resort hotel image, with an international reputation to protect, but I may be wrong !!!

I hope this is not too long winded and helps with your decision.

Here is another way to locate "stuff" on this and other websites (thanks to Stickman for this tip). If you want to find out what has been posted on this website regarding for instance "Sofitel" just type into GOOGLE this querie

You will come up with about 24 posts all from HHAD containing "Sofitel"

You know what it is like - you try to be facetious but it doesn't always work in black and white! Apologies for my cranky and sarky reply to my own post. It's just that I am a big fan of this board and was hoping for a few replies - just humour me!

Stayed at the Marriott last year too and found that to be guest-friendly, although a bit dingy and dark (maybe it was just my room).

As for searching, I did actually do a search on the site already but didn't find too much info.

And Mackem, understood matey! I also have to work but now and again I can't be arsed... so I end up surfing.

Oh, and good luck with that promotion push this year. The Mackems certainly should be in the Premiership.

Thanks for the support marra, but after the first two performances of the season you probably have more faith in the Ladâ€™s than me.
If I were still there I would have taken you up on the beer thing. Though i'm not sure how many Chang I can take - kept loosing count!

I stayed at the Hilton last year and will be staying there again this year.

I would highly recommend it.

Extremely beautiful rooms. Guest friendly (as long as you're discreet I would assume) I didn't have any problems with that.

I think the food at the brewery is the worst in the hotel. Other restaurants in the hotel were better. The only time I would recommend eating in the hotel is if you're lounging by the pool and want something down there, or if you decide to stay in for room service. Either way, any of the hotel food is much more $$$ than the local places around.

my first trip to thailand was in1978.I was in huahin only to stay in the
then world famouse railway hotel,i could also afford it.i came by train from surathani after being stuck if you can believe on kho samue.its still there only the name has changed.when i win the lotto i will go direct to the orientil in bangkok then to the evison??? or the former railway hotel
in the old wing and stay there .25 years ago it was a dream come true
and its still there.

In 1986 I think it was, that is was reopened under the name Sofitel Hua Hin after it was completely refurbished (sorry for my English). In the film 'Killing Fields' you can still see some pictures of the old days.

150 Baht a night weekdays it costed in 84 and 85. The old wing.
I always stayed in the old wooden chinese hotel opposite the evening foodmarket. All these lovely crazy Swedish guys stayed there as well.
Janne from HÃ¤lsingborg is the only name I remember.
If his liver is still okay he should be about 70 something now.
