giving birth in HH

Dear HH community,

I need your kind assistance.

I will be probably giving birth in Hua Hin end of next month and was wondering if you had any information on hospitals, Ob/Gyns, birth assistants (doulas) here. I have visited the BGK Hospital today and have a good feeling about it and Dr Kitti. But I am still in need of a doula to back up until December 20th for my `initially planned` doula in a case the baby arrives earlier than planned.

Thanks dm for that clarification. So a Doula is a kind of birth partner. Usually a close friend or female relative would fill that role. I very much doubt that there is any formal assistance of that kind in HH - or indeed anywhere in Thailand, if only because of the nature of the family unit there - which in itself provides the support.
To be quite honest I think in that situation - as a farang - I would be ensuring that I was as close as possible to the Obstetrician/hospital prior to the date of confinement, and had access to transport to the hospital ready as well.
I would suggest that annouchkas' husband/partner could really help by stepping into the role of birth partner if at all possible - and if there isn't a suitable female alternative.

Bear in mind that although you may give birth in BKH you will be moved to Hua Hin Hospital the government hospital for post natal care as they do not have the facilities.

The Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin certainly has great facilities for post partum care

I am hoping that I can get some good advice from mothers out there who have given birth in Hamburg and have up-to-date information on the hospitals, birth centres (if they have these) and antenatal classes. I am in my 2nd trimester and will start looking soon for places to prepare myself and have my first child, here in Germany. I would like to find a English speaking antenatal class or at least a English-speaking midwife, but have no idea where to start. I live near Altona, but have been given mixed opinions on having a baby at Altona's hospital, one opinion came from my Frauenarzt, I was wondering whether others have experienced this hospital or others and can give me advice - I am looking for somewhere which provides pain relief without having to fight for it.

Also is it true that with a normal birth, with no problems, mothers are required to stay 7 days in hospital after the birth?

Any help or information would be very kind.
