Where to pay the electric bill?

Post by wpcoe »

I tried to pay my electricity bill at 7-11 as usual, but they said it was too late -- apparently ten days after the date of the bill is too late? So, they said to pay directly at the electricity company and waved vaguely south or southeast (of Soi 80).

Once previously, when I did not receive a bill and didn't notice, a fellow came around and rang my door bell and took payment personally. Haven't seen/heard from him this time.

So where can I pay the bill so they don't cut my power and remove the meter?

If you are coming from the centre of HH, head to where you do a u-turn to go back to Market Village and exactly at the u-turn, the electricity office is immediately in front of you.

The electricity head office is a detached, square, quite large building south of Market Village on the same side of Petchkasem, set back a little from the main road. At a guess I'd say around soi 90, but I'm sure someone can be more accurate than that.

EDIT: I see they already have! :thumb:

Hey, thanks for the quick and precise reply! Will go there tomorrow morning, if not this afternoon.

(I assume you mean the *usual* u-turn spot that was blocked/barricaded when I went to the hospital on Monday? Not sure where the next u-turn spot is after that....)

The next U turn after that is under the flyover at the south end of town.

It's almost opposite Condo Chain and at the moment if you in a car you have to go all the way to the u-turn near the flyover. If on a bike you can sneak through almost opposite the building

If you look at the bottom of the bill there should be some Thai words, and two dates. The first date the day after the bill issue date, and the second date 10 days later. Those are the payment parameter dates. Sometimes 7-11's won't take it on the last day either. Pete

Why you are not using direct debiting from your bank account?

Thanks for the tip about the payment parameter dates. Seems it's a ten day window. I went to 7-11 on day 11. Guess I need to be less casual about paying.

Here's the info on where to pay the water and electricity:

I forgot to pay my bill as well, and on the 10th they came in the morning and cut off my electricity. I was inside the house and they didn't even ring the doorbell! Getting the electricity back on took six hours and a lot of headaches.

Talk about a cluster, allow me to share the conclusion of this episode:

The dates on the bottom of my electric bill indicate can pay from 27-Oct to 05-Nov (nine day window – good info for the future!)

On 06-Nov (not knowing the above) 7-11 told me it was too late to pay there, I had to pay directly at PEA.

On 09-Nov I posted here for directions, and I paid the bill in full on at 3:14pm that afternoon.

This afternoon, (14-Nov) I come home and my electricity is turned off. The meter is still on the pole.

After a neighbor calls in Thai at around 2:30pm, the PEA truck showed up within 10 minutes, but wouldn’t turn it back on.

Neighbor calls again and says I have to go to PEA office. I go and pay an additional B107 at 3:32pm.

After I return home, I thought, “Hmmmm. I bet they are not taking action unless I call and specifically ask them to.” (I mean, why should they assume that the reason I am paying the fee is to restore my electricity service?) So, I call at 3:55pm and get an English-speaking man who ASSURES me the power will be back on by 5:00pm. He told me goes home at 4:30pm, but again assured me it would be okay by 5:00pm, and “don’t worry.” (Yeah, don’t worry, be happy, have a few hits on the bong, and drop a lid?)

I call at 5:05 pm, several times, and keep getting hung up on by a fellow who says “ten minutes, they fix.” He never even asked me for the address or who I was, nor gave me the chance to educate him.

I call at 5:28pm and the previous fellow apparently went home in that ten minute interval he advised. The fellow on the phone now is actually a technician who rides on the truck. Luckily I was able to relay my billing number to him and he verified it in the computer. Even though he had my street address (house number & soi number), apparently he can’t read house numbers (?? He kept asking me “100 meters? 200 meters?”) so I had to meet him on Petchkasem Road at a nearby 7-11 and ride with him to show him where I live.

He reattached everything in about 15 seconds.

Okay, here are all my “why”s:

1. When I paid the bill in full on 09-Nov, wasn’t that sufficient to keep the power from being cut today? If a “late fee” was due at that point, why wasn’t I charged it right then and there.

2. When I paid the B107 (B100 + tax) this afternoon, why didn’t the pleasant woman at the counter arrange for the repair crew to go out?

3. Why did the fellow at 3:55pm ASSURE me that my power would be on by 5:00pm. Oh, wait, could it be because his shift was over at 4:30pm?

4. Why did the fellow at 5:05pm + multiple times not even give me a chance to verify my address and just keep hanging up? Oh, wait, could it because his shift was over in ten minutes?

Oh, forgot to mention: Once, several months ago when I actually did not receive my electric bill (really!), about two weeks later a guy came on a moto-sai and rang my door bell. I paid him and it was end of story.

My next door neighbor said a guy came about an hour before I got home and did something to my meter. Yeah, I wasn’t home, so he turned off my power. So,

5. Why was he even sent out when I paid the bill five days ago?

Such a pleasant afternoon. (Not)

[/rant off] Thanks for listening.

Total sympathy and absolutely no mockery, I promise :thumb:  but my answer to all of your questions is "How long have you lived here?"

Yeah, I know. I shouldn't be surprised. The real problem is that I still make an attempt to wrap my mind around the thought processes involved, and get frustrated when I can't.

It's just a cathartic release to give a good rant once in a while, I guess.
