Is fully comp insurance usually provided with new vehicles?

Post by huahincharlie »

As per my recent posts, I'm interested in the Ford Everest, but I'd like to know if it is usual practice for dealers (Ford and others) to provide the first year's cover free? Thanks

Not in my experience; (two Hondas) full comp first class insurance was about 20k per year on each when they were new.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

not in my experience either as HHF says insurance usually around 20K some companies will honour some of your no claims discount from your home country - we got a 10% discount.

Fully comprehensive insurance was included in the deal when I bought my Toyota Vios three years ago. Honda had just brought out a new City model and they weren't giving insurance so we went for the Vios.

My 2011 Triton from Mitsubishi also came with 1 years free fully comp insurance (17k), along with one years road tax too. Should all be in the price.

Perhaps Honda rape their customers a bit more as Honda has the snob factor here in LOS (not sure why though), so maybe they don't throw it in with the vehicle as they think you can/will happily splash out extra for the brand name.

For my Honda Jazz (bought in Hua Hin) I got 1 year insurance and road tax. After that I changed to a cheaper insurance company.

Rayong Honda offers one year of 1st class insurance free with every car bought. As does Toyota and Mitsu over here. I thought it was the standard give away with all dealers. Pete

While you may get 1st year coverage for free it isn't necessarily the best coverage. Might pay to check the details of policy and if not happy with it - bargain down the car price and seek your own coverage.

When my 1st year's policy ran out I renewed with another company, cheaper and better coverage.

So far I have purchased 2 Isuzu, 1 Mitsubishi and 1 Volvo. They all come with 1st Class Insurance form Major Insurers, plus 1-3 yrs Breakdown recovery Service.

1st Class Insurance is 1st Class Insurance, as far as I know. There is no good or bad.

Maybe I should clarify. Our Honda's did indeed come with insurance from the dealer (not in Hua Hin), but on the paperwork/invoice it was added to the price of the vehicle. Honda just did the paperwork for us so that the car was insured when we drove it off the lot. They did throw in a lot of free optional equipment (probably worth as much, if not more than the insurance), so maybe every dealer gives different giveaways to get business.

With Honda it's very easy. In these parts they offer Krung Thep Insurance. If you come out of a store and see that someone has sideswiped your car in the parking lot, you call them and they give you a reference number. You then go to your Honda dealer, give them that number and they take it from there, you're finished and just await parts and repair. We haven't had any 'moving' accidents so don't know what they do there, probably send an agent to the scene for photos and investigation I imagine. Pete

Can you give any examples of the "snob factor" as you put it,in relation to Honda owners over the BMW,Benz and Fortuner owners that seem to think they own the road?

Honda does have snob factor for the middle classes here actually, you gave extreme examples of the rich (BMW/Benz etc) which is pretty inherent with that territory.

Why do you think Honda refuses to make a pickup?

Well there's the Ridgeline, but I assume can only be imported & therefore very much uncompetitive pricing..........
