22 Bangkok districts likely to escape flooding

Twenty-two districts of Bangkok are very likely to escape flooding as the Royal Irrigation Department has managed to drain much of floodwaters, a deputy Bangkok governor said Monday.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Thirachon Manomaipibul said the opening of sluice gates of Klong Kao, Klong Sib, Klong Sib Ed Klong Sib Song and Klong Sib Sam canals and the speeding up draining of water at the Lower Klong Hok Wa had greatly improved the flooding situation in Bangkok.

He said the irrigation department managed to drain about 10 million cubic metres of water from Lower Klong Hok Wa canal into Bang Pakong, and thus improving the situation.

As a result there was 80 per cent chance that the 22 districts would escape flooding.

They are Bang Khunthien, Bang Bon, Thung Khru, Rat Burana, Jom Thong, Phasi Charoen, Vatana, Din Daeng, Sathorn, Ratthevi, Phayathai, Pathumwan, Pomprab Satrupai, Suang Luang, Pravet, Saphan Sung, Bang Kapi, Bueng Kum, Huay Kwang, Wang Thonglarn, Bang Sue and Bang Kok Noi districts.

Southern bus terminal relocated

The southern bus terminal has been relocated from the Boromratchonnanee Road to the Holland Beer House on Rama II Road, the president of the Transport Company said Monday.

Wutthichart Kalayanamitr said the current location of the southern bus terminal was flooded so it was inconvenient for passengers to board southern buses there.

He said the compound of the Holland Beer House is large enough and is not far from the current location of the terminal.

Drinking Water

It seems the Drinking Water supply is slowly moving in a positive direction in BKK area. Yesterday seen a number of private traders selling Singha Water (6L), although at a high price (THB60).

A friend in Rayong has called me today to tell me that Water is back on the shelves there now.

I would not surprised if foreigners that have suffered property loss/damage because of the floods receive absolutely no compensation at all for their losses.

I guess that this will be the case, but surely eventually this will be the same for all private property owners that do not have insurance, regardless of Nationality.

OPINION: It seems to me the media has completely stopped covering the flooding situation up-country. If you dig deep enough for the one line comments it seems to be improving in the north daily. The Asia Highway seems to be fully re-opened again. It's sad that people who have been floating for over a month are being ignored, at least in the sense of news coverage, just to focus on if a Bangkok street has enough water to get one's socks wet.

Yeah, that's true. I think the only property that foreigners can own legally(in their own name) are condominiums.

Unfortunately both Ego and political undertones are playing a very big role at the moment.

The Dems are busy slating Yingluck at the moment too. Their time will come, but now is the time for unity, and to accept that they (everyone collectively, regardless of Department, or Political leaning) have already 'lost it'. Outside help, such as the Yank Naval support would already have helped tremendously.

I'm sure we will eventually here of other good offers that have been shunned.

Such a shame! The whole country will have the shame of failure, simply because some bigwigs don't want the mis-guided shame of saying 'Help Please!' Other countries don't seem to have this type of problem in such a disastrous situation.

The damage is going to get much worse, there are 2 more international Industrial Estates at serious threat now, Bang Chan and Lad Krabang. They're going to go, for sure.

Hopefully when all has passed, there will be a huge opportunity to learn from this, but I truly doubt it.

Thailand has so many wonderful attributes, both as a Country, and as a People, unfortunately events like the current one, demonstrate only the worst.
