I have the 6/512 package and it runs at about 3Mb on a good day - you may get full speed if you're lucky at 4am.

The Premier packages are supposed to be better for international (outside of Thailand) web access but its bullshit - have tried both and there is no difference.

I have about the same experience as Buksida. I started with the Premier package, but compared to their other packages, Premier here refers to "Falang rip-off". I switched to their 9 Mbps/1Mbps at less than half the price and got better speed, also to international sites.
In real terms however, something closer to 8Mbps/.7Mbps.

As above....had Premier (aka Dumb Farang Rip Off Acct) and swtched to basic 6/512.

Absolutey sod all difference...and I download a shed load of stuff every day...sometimes 2 or more gigs a night.

Slower during the day....full speed ahead after midnight....sometmes actually over the limit apparently. Averages out around 4.5 to 5 ..... theres no rhyme nor reason.

3BB is a good name for the shop.... manned by 3 brainless bast*rds.

the only difference between the accounts is they all offer the same crappy service but its how much you choose to get ripped off for them.

oh....and the routers they provide are utter sh*te as well. Get yourself a D-LINK one from a computer shop.

i used to use tot until i went to a Thai friends house and used his PC ,i was paying 1200 baht ,while i was using his i asked how much he paid ,he was on the lowest package,i was getting spanked for the same service, i then switched to 3BB cheapest package if anything its a bit faster ,and i can watch YouTube etc without any problem at anytime of day

I am using TOT at the moment. Requested (mb package but the guy who did my connection, convinced my missus in my abscence, to take the 6Mb package at first, as it is easier to upgrade to 9Mb rather than downgrade to 6Mb, if i didnt need the 9Mb and i find the 6Mb to be crap, So i have 6Mb at the moment and generally it is running fast enough unless i try to connect to U tube or Facebook. Speed tests to servers in side Thailand show a reasonable speed most of the time about 4 - 5 Mb. unless i try to connect to a server in the USA where both sites are located, then i am running very often at less than 1 Mb.
I was told that TOT would run ok for about the first 2 weeks and true to what i was told that seems to be how it has happened.
So all in all it has been very frustrating most of the time. Down loading movies I agree is is best done at night.
I dont know if the 9Mb package would have been any better as i am sticking with the 6Mb as i dont trust the buggers anymore.

Piesat: If the latency was 43ms, that was only the speed to Bangkok, not overseas.

Thai ISPs have cached some of the speed tests so they actually bounce off of local (Thailand) servers. The technical how of it is not totally clear to me, but on another Thailand forum that shall not be named, it was shown that electrons moving at the speed of light cannot physically reach, say, the US mainland in less than 200ms.

One benefit of Premier over non-Premier is a lower contention ration. i.e. Fewer users sharing the connection.

I switched from a Premier 3Mbps/1Mbps plan to a non-Premier 9Mbps/1Mbps and I honestly don't think I lost anything, but occasionally gained speed. It appears that some of the larger web sites, like Google, Microsoft and some others have "mirror sites" here in SE Asia, and when downloading, say, a YouTube clip I can get almost the full 9Mbps download speed. Also, when using multi-threaded downloads (like torrents) from overseas, I often approach the 9Mbps speed. On run of the mill browsing I don't notice any difference, and for normal file downloads, I don't see much above 3Mbps.

There was a difference seen between premier /non-premier about 5 years ago when there were earthquakes in the pacific and most of the lines from asia to america went down for a week or so. International bandwidth was heavily curtailed.

Friends of mine on the same street or just round the corner with non-premier had no service during that time, whilst i (premier) had very close to a normal service. It looked as though they had diverted available international bandwdth to the premier customers - which i thought was reasonable given the extra price we pay.

anecdotal evidence over the last 6 months to a year from people with 9 or 12mb non-premier lines indicates that now there is no difference between the two packages (except for price !), but if ever a problem occured again with the international lines, would they differentiate between the two again ?

Incidentally

I have just received a 3BB VIP card which I am told entitles me to discount in certain stores, hotels and spas

Problem is to register you have to be able to do so on their website in Thai. Guess I could go into 3BB and ask them to do it for me

Anybody any experience of this?
