Quite a few shelves empty in Tesco. Things must be getting desperate, they're out of Pepsi. Did notice tinned fish was almost sold out. Bags of rice were down to only a couple of choices. Bottled water almost gone. If you need any of these things, the Dept store in town has a supermarket on the ground floor and they still look well stocked. Either people are being prudent, there are more customers or it's interrupted deliveries.

I have a tin of Tuna for sale only 350 thb. :thumb:

Thanks for the updates on roads and info number. Very helpful.

All of the chain stores in Pattaya and Rayong are experiencing the same shortages as described above. Some chit chat indicates that there is as we know a re-supply problem from their warehouses. Second is that people in the dry areas are not hording, but buying and donating. Every school and organization has a program going and it all ends up in Bangkok somewhere, I think Don Muang, for distribution to the central flooded areas via boat, helicopter, Thai Airways....whatever can function to those areas and in those areas. CP All apologises for goods shortage
The Nation October 22, 2011 11:33 am

CP All Plc today issued a statement to apologise all clients, as shelves at many 7-Eleven outlets are left empty despite high demand.

Banyat Kamnoonwat, assistant vice president of CP All, attributed the shortage to severe flooding which blocks transportation of goods, the lower production by some suppliers, and the historical spike in demand.

"The company is trying to fix this problem. For example, we are ordering goods from provincial distribution centres, securing more bigger trucks and looking for substitute goods. We believe that these measures would help ease consumers’ difficulties to some extent. Once the water subsides, we’ll do everything to restore the goods availability to the pre-flood level," he said.

Don Mueang warehouse to be turned distribution centres
Kesinee Tangkhiew
The Nation
October 22, 2011 11:49 am

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said today that the government is allowing retailers to use Don Mueang Airport's warehouse as distribution centres, to ease consumer goods shortage.

He said that the shortage is attributable to hoarding, as consumers stock up consumer goods ahead of floods. This is exacerbated by the closure of several distribution centres in Wang Noi, Ayutthaya.

He said that the warehouse at the airport covers 30,000 square metres. From the airport, consumer goods could be distributed to retail outlets within 48 hours.

Earlier, five retailers including Tesco Lotus, Big C Supercentre and CP All proposed for the use of the warehouse space.

Kittiratt said that the operations could start on Monday, Oct 24. He also said he approached the producers of several consumer goods, particularly instant noodles, to increase their output to address the rising demand.

Dry food and drinking water are the first to disappear from shelves.

I'm a big believer in Karma... actually it's the only thing I believe in (hence I'm always looking over my shoulder) and I believe this to be a perfect example of what goes around.....

The fact that lives have been lost makes this a delicate situation for my upcoming outburst.

Yingluck gained her title from exploiting the ill-educated poor - just as her big brother did. She should in NO WAY be in a position of power in any country given her poor scores and 'ghost written' political prowess... yet here she is. A few months into her (and big brothers) path to greater wealth and power Mother Nature comes and takes and big steaming dump on her parade.

A couple of months ago Mother Nature gave her an opportunity to SHOW why she was rightly elected and an opportunity to SHOW her leadership skills. A couple months later here we are.... drowning in the stench of mislead guidance and corruption.

The irony of it all is that those same ill-educated folks that she and her numptees depended on are now turning to her and asking questions to the like of 'why didn't you stop the rain?' of which she replies to the media (headline) 'Noone could have predicted this, stop having a go at me'...

You're absolutely right love... but the average schmo could have done a better job of dealing with it if his countrymen were at stake.

You had a couple months head start to do something love.... but you didn't did ya. You sat around eating caviar with ya mates while the country was about to drown. Your ego gave you false assurances that nothing bad could ever come to the country while the Thaksin's were in charge.

I for one hope the people who are suffering from this devastation string you to the back of their row boat and let you swim in the stench that many others are.

Interesting thoughts GLC.

The world is crying out for wise, capable leadership. Where are these people?

Not sure whether this is karma but there is a belief, with respect to energy in matter, that our thoughts (being energy) can affect the physical world. When mankind is at peace, the physical world is also at peace. When mankind is in strife and chaos, we are beset by earthquakes, storms and tsunamis. Our consciousness determines the state of the physical world. Instead of testing for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, mankind should have a 'Consciousness Meter'. The media are only too happy to depress us. It's all very 'dark'. Could it be....??? Ok. Ok. Let's not go there.

Coming back to earth. If I recall last year, the rains ended very quickly around the end of October. We must be close to the end of the deluge.

Update from CBD, Bangkok. Wife and daughter had decided to stay until Monday morning, but changed their mind this morning and are heading home this afternoon. It's primarily because of confusion and differing reports on the news, but the hotel staff on soi 24 has now started to talk about additional precautions in and around the hotel. Wife says there is an air of panic about the place, but she's not sure what the staff of the hotel know that the general public doesn't know. The owner of the place is Chuwit, so perhaps he has some inside info from the government that hasn't been released. Pete
