found this site...while looking for live music

Post by illy »

by looking for live music, bands in thailand i found hua hin after dark and then this forum..great idea for us farangs who would like to live there but havent got the guts to do it yet!! hehe

have been to hua hin three times. nice place. i am a live music lover, and a pro musician my self.
only thing is, the gig with the best facility for live music was the bar at the hilton and each time the band has been awful. average age of the crowd looked to be about 30-50 yet the band was playing music for teens such as rap and metal, very badly!! sound system not too great either. seems a shame , could really have a happening gig there. there were a few other live acts around but all looked to be suffering from volume restrictions and all looking a bit bored cause they couldnt really 'rip into it with feelin" ....some good musos there for sure.and an excellent thai girl[not phillipino for once]singing at one of the restaurants not far rom the hilton..cant recall the name of the restaurant/bar

at least thailand HAS a live music scene...seems asians and farangs on holiday still like to hear good live music instead of DJ stuff. seems to me there would be a big market for some good live music there. for teh baby boomers and the gen X ers!!.all those 'captive' farangs ususally baby boomers with load of disposable cash..cant see them really enjoyoing rap and metal and disoc stuff too much..not their age group..

saw an awesome band in pattaya..lam morrison band..excellent...need more of those i think..
saw him advertised on an out of date web page in hua hin..i think it was called rockestra or something..drove out to find it, a bit out of town only to be greeted by a lonesome bar girl and two customers and to be told no live band here for a while now!!
ah well, it was interesting trying to find the place!!
great web site guys!!
thailand really is a great place...i am now probably one of those many farang who feel like dropping out and coming to thailand like soooooooo many others who have thought about it but not done it!! sick of the horrors of the western world, but do i have the guts to do the big 'sea change' and move to thailand?? already been there 8 times, have a permanent thai girlfriend and i keep coming back and back and back!!
what's a guy to do???????????????

If you havn't been before on one of your previous trips here, you could try J Jeans on Soi Bintabart - the first place you get to on the left walking from The Hilton. It's a while since I went, but thet play good rock music.
Years ago, there was a place called Hurricane Bar, just off Petchkasem. It was run by Hurrican Thep and his English wife. At the time I heard that Thep was rated in the top 5 rock guitarists in Thailand. Sadly, they got closed down because of noise - it was LOUD - so your comment about noise restrictions is obviously valid.

thank you i will look for that place next time i am there which will be early july.shame that hurricane place went down. i see on the hua hin site that there is a rockestra 2 opened up? i will check that too. shame about the hilton bands though, is a great venue, but the bands must be brought in on the cheap or something as they are not up to the usual standard of bands i have seen in thailand

Finding HHAD

Post by THAI ROB »

I find this site by searching for information on Hua Hin on Google. Hua Hin first came to my attention from being mentioned on Stickman Bangkoks excellent weekly column on Thailand life.

I found it by typing in 'Hua Hin forums' in Google.

I wanted to find out more about HH, what it was like, how big the expat community was, etc. Lurked around for a while and then signed up.
It's a small world after all...

If it hasn't happened there is no sense worrying till it does and if it has happened there is nothing you can do anyway. :-)

BaaBaa,

Wish I had internet, mobile phones or even a fax the first time I went to LOS in 1980 :)
I was sent for work, no one or anything did prepare me for what I found there, and I had to find it all out by myself......

Does this make me feel old or what ?

BeeBee

1980. Thats the year i was born. That Probably makes you feel even older now. Dont think any amount of research or storys can really prepare you for that first night out in Bangkok though. Soi Cowboy was my friends idea for a gentle introduction.

Found this Board by ...

Post by smiles »

.... a Google search using the phrase "soi 80 hua hin" puts your website & message board at to top of the first page. I chose that because it was one of the small neighbourhoods we were walking through while checking out areas to keep on a list of rental possibilities for next year.

Frankly I didn't expect to get such a detailed response when first typing that in . . . . but that's Google for you.

Cheers ...
Just one more reason why I love living in Thailand ...
