Good news for us Benzine and Diesel burners. Gasoline and Diesel prices should drop as of today.
(Mods, not sure whether this belongs in "News" or "Motoring" as it is really both, please move if better in Motoring)
The National Energy Policy Committee yesterday resolved to suspend the Oil Fund levy on diesel as well as octane-95 and octane-91 petrol, effective today.
The Oil Fund now collects Bt7.50 per litre from octane-95 petrol. This will also affect the excise tax, which is calculated on the overall price.
The octane-95 petrol price will immediately come down by Bt8.02 per litre: Bt7.50 as the contribution to the Oil Fund and Bt0.52 as excise tax. The price of octane-91 will drop by Bt7.17, and that of diesel by Bt3 per litre. After the cuts, octane-95 petrol will retail at Bt39.32 a litre, down from Bt47.34, while octane-91 will drop to Bt34.77 from Bt41.94. Diesel will cost Bt26.99, down from Bt29.99....
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
its gone down a fair bit i bought diesel today at 25 baht a litre, last week it was 30.5 a litre, thats a hugh drop especially when your filling up , happy days
Gasohol sales should tank now. From my earlier testing I found regular gasoline got me about 12% more KPL than Gasohol 91 which was 15% cheaper (because of the tax) so I used Gasohol 91. Now its regular "benzine" all the way and should be up to 50 Kilometers more per tank plus more power from engine.
Now they can chuck the food consuming alcohol processing and lower the cost of food used to make it. In the U.S. its the corn lobby that keeps ethanol in Gas and has raised the price of corn (which is used as a feedstock for animals) big time because of it. Alternative fuels just don't make financial sense if looked at objectively.
Thanks for the heads up on the Gasohol/Benzine thing.
I am driving down to HH next week for the "big move"...on previous trips I have averaged about 13.4 km/per litre using either E20 or Gasahol91 in my Accord. I will fill up with regular 91 on this trip and see if there is any difference.

I don`t know that it helps the straight 95 octane very much. Some time ago there was talk of removing 95 octane altogether, and in any case, where can you buy it?

I think that Caltex still carries it, but not positive. Pete

Thanks Pete. I don`t use much anyway as on LPG, but it needs to start on petrol. I use the 95 Gasohol, but it does deteriorate quickly, so I can not carry much. As the new price is nearly the same I will check at a Caltex station.

It's been getting harder and harder to find Benzine at all over the past year. Stations that we always used to stop at between here and Bangkok have stopped pumping it so we had to look for others. It can still be found at every third or forth station along the highway, but you can't just pull in anywhere and get it like we used to.

You have been here too long, hhf! Calling gasoline / petrol "Benzine" is a sure sign!

Yes, a quote from Wiki...."Benzine should not be confused with benzene or benzyne, nor should it be confused with gasoline although many languages call that with a name derived from benzine."
Every Thai I know calls gasoline, benzine. "Gas" here means other things, cooking, LPG etc. Pete

I got into that habit from ordering fillups at the pump... "Benzine, gao nung, tim tung!"

Yes, Regular Gas was hard to find on my trip to BKK yesterday. After finding it have noticed significant improvement in KPL to numbers never seen before on Gasahol91. Will be interesting to see overall affect after a few tanks of it if the "temporary" thing lasts for a while. I still can't understand why the idiots in the U.S. and Thailand keep thinking that using food for fuel is cheaper. Food just gets more expensive when you suck up so much for fuel. Who is the loser then when prices for food sky?
