Well said S.J

I understand what you are saying, also agree with you, But my interpretation of the question asked, (how much a couple would need to live in Hua Hin) I assume that they where asking about present day cost of living. :)

Yes you're right Ken, plus the OP also said they have a house too to be fair. Obviously the discussion expanded a lot then to some of the other issues like property, inflation affects and the like.

Wow, this has been a most interesting thread! Depressing at times I must admit... I spend six months a year in Hua Hin and don't have a Thai Mrs! I rent everything I need. Condo, motorbike and having fun. I get by on about 60 to 70k a month... That's eating out 100% of the time and having a few bevies most nights... I know I could reduce this if I needed too!

Recent echonomic articles reviewing exchange rates have concludrd that the baht is undervalued, not quite as much as the Chinese RMB which may be as much af 40% from where it should be but by 20% -- scary?

A link might be helpful there... Otherwise it isn't scary, so much as scare-mongering.

Cost of living is not what it used to be. but hey, you get what you pay for. If you think a 2,000 pounds per month life in the UK is better than a 2,000 pounds per month life in Thailand, just stay in the UK then. Not really a difficult choice  :thumb:

I have been having a bit of a giggle over this thread

I have been here on a pension for 14 years now and it has never exceeded 70K a month in fact on average about 50K a month and for thirteen years of that i supported my ex wifes son , her family and at least 10 CASINOS and numerous Meng Dars :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Now My new wife throws a wobbly if we spend more than 15K a month :D :D :D

Oh and Pranburi is noticably cheaper than Hua Hin :D :D :D

As many have said, it's a very subjective thing. For me (and I would think for most people) I didn't want to drastically lower my standard of living after retiring. I wanted a home similar to what I had in the U.S. and I wanted two cars, one for me and one for the missus like we had there, and I wanted to eat and drink much the same as we did there and be as comfortable in our (home) surroundings. That lifestyle here, with no golf or travel, but also providing support to my mother-in-law costs 90k per month.

That's why I say to be really safe and comfortable and be able to travel, play golf, and enjoy your retirement as you should, 120k to 150k is a safe bet. If you don't spend it all you can always save it for a rainy day.

Some, like me, want to maintain the life style they are accustomed to while others are content to have a motorbike (or nothing) for personal transport and live in a flat above a shophouse. If that makes you happy, then go for it on a 30 or 40k per month budget.

Just make sure you have the income to support the lifestyle you desire... it's as simple as that.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I have read the expenses to be anything between B 30'000 to 200'000 a month.

We all know there are rich and poor people in this world.

I am well within above figures (approx. 70K) and if I need to to put my expense-break-on than I'll do it.

The question will be how you're going to the immigration office?

-by Fino/Honda Dream or walking?

-by Mercedes Benz 350S/Audi A8?

For me it doesn't matter as long as I reach it every 90 days.....

:D happy day.

You really cannot put a figure on living costs anywhere unless you can compare like for like. All depends on your lifestyle.
