Ipad2 and e-mail connections

Post by migrant »

Well the wife bought a ipad2 that has 3g here in California.

When we go to Thailand I use my laptop with a sim card and internet thingy so get pretty good access anywhere we go.

The ipad2 though should be fine with wifi, but does anyone know about connecting without the wifi so to increase areas of access?

Thanks

Hi Migrant.

You have one of the following. Wi-Fi, plus 3G. 16GB, 32GB, 64GB. Yes you will be able to connect any-where, but on your U.S sim card you may find it very expensive. Better to collect a micro sim from one of the phone companies, in BKK, also best to tell them its for a I-Pad. You will then connect as long as there’s a signal.

I got a micro sim from the airport. Costs about 890 baht per month unlimited data. Top up as needed. I think it was AIS. Other packages available too. Or if you have an iPhone the iPad will share the data connection as well.

Thanks for the info!

It's a 32GB with 3G and wifi

Do I need to do anything to the ipad2? I know with my old nokia phone I would just by the sim card and put it in, but knowing apple I thought they would make harder!!

Just turn 3G on and the I-pad will search for the signal, it should also change the setting, but to be on the safe side insert the micro sim before you leave the shop, also remember to turn off 3G when your not using the I-pad, other wise you will run your battery down, and may also use credit.

When I came over last year with my Ipad to purchase my property I found the Ipad was almost useless when doing research as so many local companies were using flash I had to revert to my laptop constantly. Sort of defeated the object, so I sold it and got the Galaxy Tab for the next trip as it was also more portable and flexible.

My sons Ipad2 seems fine on local WiFi as do our MACS and MBA

I would checkout what you intend to be browsing before getting a sim

Not having flash I had heard about, but also heard there are alternatives.

For me the main thing would be to check e-mails and go to my pc to monitor my office while in Thailand (unfortunately)

The wifi is fine but hoping to connect through the "3G" system since we are often away from wifi areas
