easy tea money for the MIB
Yesterday I was supposed to pick-up khoon panraya after shopping, missed her, took a u-turn at the redlight, on the Fino, MIB saw me, catched me and demanded thb 400. I just wanted to pay right there and get on, but he took my license and we had to follow him to their small booth. There My wife talked him down to 200.
I've often wondered what would happen if you ignored the copper's whistle. I've been tempted twice, but bottled it both times. Once in the evening in town at a busy junction on a bike without a helmet, and once on the Petchkasem road near Petchaburi, in the rain, at c. 120 in the fast lane in a line of traffic. I nearly died once trying to avoid the silly arse waving me over, then again trying to pull over for my 200 baht fine. At those prices it just isn't worth it, but does anyone know if they ever follow up on these things?

What happens is... you ignore the whistle and he basically ignores you - too much of a hassle chasing you down. I certainly don't condone it but twice I have been in a hell of a rush to get somewhere and been whistled at. The first time was justified (idiot wearing no helmet) but I couldn't afford to spend 10 minutes paying my fees to them. The second time was unjustified (probably just a road block looking for drugs etc) and, considering I had done nothing wrong and once again was already running late I just rode through. A bit of whistling and that was that.
As Dtaai Maii has said... for such a small fine it really isn't worth any extra hassle but there are times when you need to be somewhere without the numpties in brown slowing you down.
Around the Sofitel I once saw a MIB try to stop a Thai guy on a motorbike in front of me - loud blowing of whistle and waving of arms - the Thai guy just rode on by. The MIB decided to try grab at the guy's shirt (not sure how he hoped to stop him that way) in any case he missed and just shrugged his shoulders and walked back to his post. I larfed (quietly) as it reminded me of a Keystone Cops scene.
