Oscar mike. you say in one post, the trouble happens when you are not there, then in another post you ask about buying a gun as prevention. Are you confused?
The only way to make a permanent cure is fencing. kill the ones there and others will move in.
The post headline state irresponsible owners, there is your problem. Cure that!!!!! TIT
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.
There is a fair bot of it to get you started OM. Won't be the prettiest fence but it is only temporary. Another alternative to shooting dogs or watching them writhe around in agony whilst the rat poison or caustic soda slowly kills them would be to install an electrified wire like the ones they use to keep cows in a field. Very cheap and a couple of harmless belts on the nose will do the job.
sorry if this sounds heartless but feck it - Im no dog lover and never have been. Dogs in Thailand are mainly scruffy mangy vermin
Mate in your situation sonic toys and BB guns are sod all use - as you say the damage is done when you aint there.
Meat marinaded in good strong rat poison is the only cure for leashless dogs. Any decent hardware shop sells it.
The only solution. Now I'm a dog lover - a big one at that. When I moved into my 'dream home' it didn't take long before I realised the whole place was infested with packs of dogs (I wasn't there during the building of it) AND Thai owners who use their dogs SOLELY as a deterrent for theives and let them bark the whole god damn night.
Needless to say I poisoned the whole lot of them one night. In doggy heaven these guys will be treated a lot better than how their 'owners' were treating them. The pack dogs on the streets - My actions made the place a safer place to be.
Most of the ones I killed were strays but a few stupid 'owners' lost their dogs also. Treat the dog right and there is absolutely no reason for it to end up a barking, snarling mess.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

How wonderful to have your incisive and sensitive contributions again, E-Dork. You were sadly missed during your self-imposed absence.
Annoying as dogs can be there are better options than poisoning them surely. I can think of more people than dogs that are an embarrassing and annoying bunch of prats in this town. Not suggesting they should be poisoned but most of them are doing it by themselves anyway. There are plenty of people here that will take and sterilise the dogs and very easy low cost solutions to keep them away.

Crazy 88
Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
Siani - it's a misconception that Thais won't 'put down' dogs. They cull plenty on beaches etc in the middle of the night and usually by shooting.
The OP's problem sounds like one of territory. The dogs were probably using that site first and will carry on using it. Same thing happened when I had an apartment in HH. Someone bought the field next door and built a hotel on it. The fields' resident soi dog simply stayed around and became a self appointed guard dog - subsequently taking up residency in the completed hotel!
But he was a sensible dog. A bit of TLC by myself, the neighbours and the hotel owners tamed him (Although Dawn might disagree ) and he kept other mutts away.
You can't of course adopt the lot of them, so electric fencing and the sonic deterrents are worth a try before more drastic measures. Or maybe just ordinary high fencing rather than electric stuff - wouldn't want the Thai neighbours little darlings getting a tingle or you might end up with even more trouble
Being the dog lover Im NOT I arrive soon and as I have said before will hire a 4 wheel drive with a roo bar and take the buggers out .So if you own a dog on Soi 88 keep him inside if you want to keep him .
If anyone wants to cull them Im willing to meet the costs as well
I agree that all domestic animals that have become feral or allowed to roam outside unattended posing a threat to health and safety to persons or property should be dealt with in the same manner as other pests.
To poison or shoot a dog causes uproar but pigeons or rats are normally acceptable.
The same anti mob are always out in force when a 'cute ' animal is harmed.
Dolphins, chimps and other primates are an example. What about say Marlin or squirrels - don't seem to get the same sympathy
I would like to add as a responsible dog owner myself who does not find it necessary to force my pets upon my neighbours I would not like to see unnecessary suffering. I would therefore advocate culling by shooting to be the best. This is not practical in all cases so careful administration of fast acting chemical causing death would probably be the best option.
Well, outside the cities, the Thais have dog collectors which round up the pack dogs in exchange for minimum recompense, at the bequest of someone usually, and sell them on to the sausage factories or noodles stalls for consumption in the urban areas.
Most parts of most cities are no place for large animals like dogs that have sensitive senses and need open spaces to exercise.
The Thais simply use dogs for cheap security and obviously don't care in general about them.
Not much selflessness around these days when it comes to many subjects.
All feral, non tagged, snarling/aggressive, roaming with impunity type of dogs should be rounded up and destroyed with extreme prejudice due to the health threat they pose to all, especially a safety threat to children that are forever being attacked here.
The ambivalence of the locals is truly lamentable on this subject and imo opinion is one of their shortcomings as it just suggests apathy/indifference on an issue such as the safety of children and public health.
Must say Poosmate, that I agree about the 'save the little fluffy bunny' brigade, it's always the visually pleasing type of animal that they bleat about. No-one says anything about the humble chicken etc, which is probably the worst treated of any of them in the world.
