Family friendly Restaraunts

Post by Goodfella71 »

Hi All

Im coming to Hua Hin in late August with my partner, two children 9 and 13 and a pain in the backside mother in law!! Im looking for a few recommendations for places to eat which are reasonably priced bujt good quality. Not just looking for the old chips and pizza type as we all like our food so a good variety would be excellent. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Thanks!!

Have a look through this thread viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16565 . There are plenty of great places mentioned there.

At one time I would have said head for Satukharn Square. Unfortunately it has succumbed to development now.
The good thing about HuaHin is the huge range of eateries. The problems arise when trying to satisfy all tastes. Most eateries - whether low end or posh - will have something for the kids, even if it's a burger. They will almost all be able to provide chips. But when you have the mother in law from hell with you things can - in my experience - get tricky. if she is OK with spicy food, rice, and seafood in particular then you should be fine. If not you have a problem.
My own Mum visited HuaHin when she was 79 and her constant gripe was the restaurants. She couldn't get her head around the fact that much of the food arrived too cold. Couldn't get to grips with having (for example) a chunk of raw cabbage on the side with a plate of hot (or what was supposed to be hot) food. Didn't like crunchy veg in rice or noodle dishes, or the Thai white bread - which tends to be sweet.
If your whole family are OK with rice/noodles/curry/seafood you have no problem and the Night Market or seafront restaurants will serve all your needs. If not there is BurgerKing - and the great Svensens icecream parlour on Petkasem Rd.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

There are a couple of decent mixed-menu family friendly restaurants opposite the Hilton.
This is the way

Terrace 90 (sponsor on the forum) is always my families and our favourite when they come over. Thai, Western & Mexican dishes, have kids meals, but have also let us order other meals as a kids meal, no problem changing over meats either, ie: having a chicken spag bol instead of pork etc. Plus they've got tables nicely spaced in the garden area, so kids can stretch their legs a bit when they get fidgety without annoying other tables.

^ Second that SJ, plus with recent additions to their menu it's hard to find a type or "food nationality" they don't have. Mexican, American, Italian, other European, English, Thai... just about everything except for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean and I expect to see them add that one day!

Most bars will let you and your son watch the match, but you're probably a bit better off somewhere like Johnnie Walker's, which isn't as 'in your face' as many other bars.

Again, check with the owner first, but Terrace90 will usually put on whatever sports you want to watch. The upstairs dining/bar area may be best for that.
