Re: Movies on DVD
another quickie
THE FRANKENSTEIN SYNDROME
This horror flick is definitely one of those filmed on video direct to DVD jobbies, but despite all that isnt half bad.
A bunch of doctors and researchers are recruited by a rogue medic with terminal cancer to research a cure for cancer using illegal embyonic stem cell research in a secret hi security facility. What they find is a re-animation formula that brings the dead cells of anything back to life. When they inject the formula into a corpse of a recently deceased guard the experiments produce unexpected results...a psychic mind reading telekenetic monster. You can guess what happens next.
Despite a two bob budget its not too bad and worth a watch. Im just not a fan of horror films and find most of them to be cliched cack...thats not the case here and it gives the old tale of a doctor gone off the map a modern twist.
Out in DVD RIP format all over the net. Not exactly a keeper but an entertaining hour or so of eye candy all the same.

Just watched '127 hours' great true story but a bit grizzly at the end for me. Will certainly appeal to you guys from the US of A. It's set in Utah

Not seen it, but this is one film that doesn't appeal to me in the slightest have to say. Guy falls down a hole, gets trapped... does the ''necessary'' to get out. How do you fill and hour an a half with that?richard wrote:Just watched '127 hours' great true story but a bit grizzly at the end for me. Will certainly appeal to you guys from the US of A. Finally got to watch The Warrior's Way..... in superb blue-ray quality

One I've just seen which was actually quite enjoyable - Ghost Writer. Not one of the greatest, but certainly keeps you interested and has the odd twist. Directed by Roman Polanski and based on Robert Harris' novel ''The Ghost''. Storyline - A ghostwriter hired to complete the memoirs of a former British prime minister uncovers secrets that put his own life in jeopardy.
At the moment downloading ''Senna'' which I've heard very good things about - basically, a documentary on Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34. One of my ''heroes'' in racing and IMHO in a class of his own (with the possible exception of Schumacher).... certainly looking forward to this one!

Saw the new pirates movie last night. Enjoyed it, but not like the first couple.

Re: Pirates.....yeah I watched (online) a TS copy of it....got just past the court scene and packed it in. Quality was terrible. I just dont get why the hell anyone bothers posting these copies .... must be like graffitti tagging. Murky blurry mess and out of synch sound. Utter dross from a Russian source. Same goes for the copies of THOR still doing the rounds, altho there the quality is marginally better. Copies of PRIEST are laughably bad. Ditto SUCKER PUNCH
I'll wait a few weeks till the R5 DVDRIPs come out methinks.

Re: Movies on DVD
shhhhh.....now dont tell anyone I told you this, but there is after all a nice watchable TS version of THOR out on the net and all over the place so easy to find:
Thor-202011-20TS.XViD-20-nCODE
is the name of the version in question
heres a page of one click links - http://jiwang.org/international-movies/ ... -xvid.html
THOR
maybe it is because it was directed by our own Kenneth Brannagh (yep...I was amazed at that as well) or maybe Marvel have finally worked out that humor need not be US orientated and have a wider audience, but this super hero flick about the eponymous Norse hammer swinger rocks and has a few sly smiles thrown in as well.
On the day he is set to take over the throne of Asgard from Odin the All Father the bad old ice giants break into Asgard to try to steal their weapon back. Thor leads a punitive raid against Odins wishes, and so is banished to Earth minus his hammer. His naughty brother Loki has in fact manufactured this, and when Odin falls into one of his sleeps Loki sets out to make sure his brother Thor never returns by unleashing the Destroyer. In the meantime the now mortal Thor has fallen for a scientist who is investigating wormholes.....
Its CGI heavy eye candy, and the Asgard sections are beautiful to behold...less horny helmets than Charles Mackintosh Art Deco done in metal. The plot rocks along nicely, and the 1 hr 48mins whips away like a wind from Valhalla. Is all epic stuff, and played out by a cast of current A listers. They also manage to not completely re-write Norse mythology and stick to some of it in a modern fashion. It damn well works, and its miles better than the last Iron Man dissapointment.
I loved it, and although the version above is well watchable, will be dropping this copy in favor of the soon to come out R5 DVDRIP as it is still a bit blurry in bits. A definite three roasting boars on the fire keeper.
Oh....and watch all the way to the end of the end credits as usual with Marvel films theres a two minute bit after the credits to lead into the next film.
All together now...... ASGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD!!!!!
super hero film fans are in for a Marvelicious super summer as the next X-Men "origins" flick X-MEN - FIRST CLASS comes out in cinemas soon and looks like a doozy - X men meet Cold War.... hoorah!
then just after that CAPTAIN AMERICA comes out full of steampunk powered moms apple pie and mad scientist Nazis to biff, bop and kick in the jodhpurs! Yippee Frickin Yay Aye!
Phew its gonna be a scorcher!
Thanks to Uncle Stan moving into overdrive Im off to get a new hard drive to store all these crackers on.....

Re: Movies on DVD
The Sandotronic 6000 Early Warning Widget alarms are going off re TRUE GRIT (the new version)
There finally are lovely crispy clean Blu Ray DVD RIP versions going around the net like hot hot hot cakes....for example there re 6 versions on oneclickmoviez.com and veehd.com. All are in lovely HiDef 1280p resolution.
However....as the Sandman only owns a clunky old laptop 1280p Hi Def resolution films wont run properly on his system, so a review of this what looks like a modern classic will have to wait till some kind soul re-rips it down to 720p resolution or lower.
If you have a fancy new system get at it.

Re: Movies on DVD
That's what I thought about the films Open Water and Phone Booth, how could they fill the time? In the book 127 Hours they filled it with flashbacks and his problem solving as he tried various ways to get unstuck and stay alive. Flashbacks were to his previous accomplishments and ridiculous risk taking in mountain and rock climbing. He was a world class climber and an extraordinarily poor judge of risk. For example, he's climbed all the 14,000+ foot (4267+ meters) mountains in Colorado, which many top notch climbers have done. Aaron was loony enough to do all the climbs in winter. Alone. No one else had ever attempted, let alone succeeded, some of the peaks as solo winter climbs. He finished them all.pharvey wrote:Not seen it, but this is one film that doesn't appeal to me in the slightest have to say. Guy falls down a hole, gets trapped... does the ''necessary'' to get out. Re: Movies on DVD
I know I keep pushing this but finally there is a solid release date for IRON SKY, the collaborative online fan film production of Nazis In Spaaaaaace.
Shwwwwiiiiiing!
Anyways, it looks like the fun kicks off on 4th April 2012 and the good news is it will be released in Hi Def download online FOR FREE!!!!
Here are a couple of taster trailers that will give you the flavour....
I cant wait

Its had a bigger budget thrown at it and looks wonderful, and has some proper actors like the ever excellent Udo Kier and the fiendishly foxy Julia Dietze who is so hot in a SS uniform its hurtful.....As World War II comes to an end in 1945, Hans Kammler and other German scientists make a breakthrough in anti-gravity research. From a secret base in the Antarctic, Nazi spaceships are sent to the "dark side" of the Moon to establish the military base "Schwarze Sonne" (Black Sun). Their plan is to build a powerful fleet and return to conquer Earth. The film is set in the year 2018 when their descendants finally return

Just managed to obtain and watch "Unknown" a few days ago, quite good quality and has more twists than a double helix.
Stars Liam Neeson and January Jones (the blonde housewife from Mad Men).

STAKE LAND
Readers of the thread will know Im no big fan of horror films....mostly they are the same repetetive illogical junk done over and over. STAKE LAND is also nothing much new - a mysterious drifter and a teenage kid he finds on his wanderings take a road trip through a post apocalypse vampire ridden US trying to get to Canada and safety. Along the way our two drifters pick up some more unfortunates, and run headlong into a crazy Christian sect of lunatics, and get to stake a few nastys.
That said it has a gritty urban gothic feel to it, and its done pretty well, albeit on what seems to be a low budget. Theres a bleak empty feeling of desparation and lack of hope running through it, and the actors bring this out well. It reminded me of the recent HBO miniseries THE WALKING DEAD...so no bad thing at all really.
Its worth a watch at least in this bleak wasteland of no good films.
Out and about in DVDSCR good quality copies
Gets two cheers.
HANGOVER 2 is out and about, but the copies are crappy TS warez scene versions that arent worth watching. Wait a few weeks and the R5s will be out.

Great. Got a copy of Hangover 2 that the comments said was great but haven't checked it yet.
