Don't forget the Trabant, the Commie Classic, the great two-stroker! Made of hardened(?) cardboard!

Isn't it sad that the cars we really love are usually shite? I kept a 1966 Rover 2000 going for years and lavished TLC on it. The boot lid had a habit of popping open on the M62 but I forgave it. The exhaust system was in 3 expensive parts but I forgave it again. It reached it's ultimate shake the whole damn car thing at 79 mph but I put my foot down to the floor and yes - forgave it. I ended up trawling back street dealers for a gearbox and ultimately gave up when yet another exhaust part packed up and couldn't be replaced without a lottery win.
It sold to a dealer in Harrogate via a Yorkshire Post ad and hopefully went to a good home, but I shed a tear or two and bought a bike.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Mags

I had one of those too and called it 'hissing sid' Head gasket had gone and the radiator leaked so I had to carry a 5 gallon drum of water in the boot to refill her every now and again on my 10 mile journey to work every day

I respectfully disagree, the Fiero was one of the most stylish cars ever built in the US!

What else can compare with this "un-stylish" American car from the early 50s?

Pretty offensive post there luckyalf... winning friends fast as a rookie I see!

While there have been a lot of abortions in the American car market, earlier and current Mustangs (not the middle years), Cameros, Corvettes, earlier Thunderbirds, and many, many, other American cars have been very stylish. :neener:

That Studebaker pictured above was very stylish back then but it was way ahead of it's time in an era of mostly boxy sedans.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes, there weren't many European cars in 1950 that looked this good:

Or this good except for a very few expensive, limited production Italian jobs intended for movie stars and rich layabouts. These cars were produced for the common man.

Ha, I'd forgotten about the old bubble car! They used to fascinate me - is that the model where entry was gained from the front?

Of course, talk of this reminds me of another 3-wheel design wonder, this time from the UK - the Robin Reliant! I had a few uncles who drove there - t'was interesting!
Cushty!

Great stuff here from Clarkson on Top Gear
