Public WiFi
Public WiFi
The usual aplogies if this is answered elsewhere. I've searched and drawn a blank.
But please can someone give an update on public wifi access in town? Is there any? Does it work? Where is it available?
I've just entered the modern world and dont really want to spend billions of pounds on roaming charges on my uk iphone when we get back into HH this weekend.
Many thanks and a happy Songkran to one and all

Re: Public WiFi
If it's not a locked phone just get yourself a Thai 3G sim.
Re: Public WiFi
The town has free WiFi that is slow but acceptable if you get on it when when demand is low. I don't carry my laptop very often. The last two times I did I was working off my hard drive but checked the HH wifi just to see if it was available. It was, but so slow I would have switched to my non-smart phone browser for more speed if I'd actually needed the net.

How long have you had it? What model is it?Jim wrote:lol ok, here's a supplementary - how do I unlock an orange iphone?

Re: Public WiFi
Yes I used it for a year but it's slow and after 2 hours they knock you off. After recommendations from Buksi and other friends I went 3BB and cannot fathom why I went Citywide for a year.TimandT wrote:Hua Hin City wide

I'm not running a business so it's emails, surfing and downloading movies and music and for the 600Bht a month it's ideal for me.

I'll just add a disclaimer then.Jim wrote:about a week and its an iphone 4.....BaaBaa. wrote:How long have you had it? What model is it?Jim wrote:lol ok, here's a supplementary - how do I unlock an orange iphone?

I wouldn't be messing with a 1 week old iphone4 that's on a UK contract.
Well I would but I won't advise somebody else to.
Back to the wifi then...................

Re: Public WiFi
The free wifi is good. I also bought a dongle and netsim card 900 baht (I think) unlimited use. I bought it on the top floor Market village.Jim wrote:The usual aplogies if this is answered elsewhere. I've searched and drawn a blank.

Re: Public WiFi
I would'nt recommend jail breaking a new Iphone! You will lose your warranty and apple support. You can buy a new mobile cheap, about 1000 baht and a thai sim will cost 150 baht. Bring your iphone and use it on the many open wifi networks in resturants and bars.. Fat Cat on the water front has open wifi so does the U Turn Bar and the Limelight! (password is Limelight) There are many others around town that others could recommend to you! Every place I go I ask and put in the password. Your iphone will remember them all until you do a reset...
Hope this helps..

Re: Public WiFi
Thanks for the signup link. Last year when I visited Hua Hin I was able to get username/password by sending an SMS, but this year when I tried, I never got a reply from them.TimandT wrote:https://www.huahincitywide.com/signup.php
I have True 3G now, but it's always nice to have a backup. And, yes, the free city WiFi is slow, but it's better than nothing!
