Travel from Krabi

Post by MartinJ »

Not sure if this is the right section but a just see a similar question.

Me and my girl will meet in BKK after going to see her mum and go to Phuket

We (she) wants to go to Krabi I think or hope there is a way from Phuket to Krabi by boat.

But as we need to end up back in the wonderful Hua Hin. Does anyone know, the best way there?
Bus or a train and how long it may take

Thanks

Martin,

I believ the boat service from Pi Pi to Phuiket only runs in highseason. The last timje I was there nearly two years ago there was direct service from Phuket to Krabi.

As for Krabi to Hua Hin. Get a minibus to Durat Thani. You might be able to bribe the driver to dump you at PhunPIn (Sometime known as Surat Thani Station but in reallity 15KM form the town. There is a train service that then goes to Hua Hin. You will have to get a bus or a raxi from where the minibus dumps you in Surat to the station of bus station if you prefer. The bribe might work. The minibus passes PhunPin so should not be a problem.

Martin, if you are in Phuket, go to the main ferry terminal in Phuket Town and book a ferry from there direct to Krabi. You can take a ferry at 8.30am in the morning to Phi Phi, spend a few hrs in Phi Phi and then catch the afternoon ferry to Krabi.
Below is a link to prices and tioime tables
http://www.phuket-excursions.com/phuket ... _Krabi.htm
The ferry normally stops in Krabi Town, and when you get off, there are plenty of taxis etc to take you to where you want to go.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay, you might like to try the beach resort of Ao Nang. There is plenty of varied price accomodation to be had in the town.
If you are going to spend some time there, it is worth taking a longboat trip either across to Railey Beach, or there is another one that goes out all day and you visit 4 small islands (lunch is provided in the cost of the trip.
You get to visit Chicken Island, Poda Island (and two others that I cannot remember).

To get to HH, the easiest way I can think of would be to fly from Krabi airport direct into Bangkok (I know that Thai Airways fly from Krabi) but not sure if any of the cheaper ones do.

When you get to Bangkok, there is a Mini Bus that will take you to HH (there are numerous post on the HHAD board giving info on this).
The other option is to book or take a private transfer (normall cost ranges between 1600-3000baht). The journey by minibus or private transfer is normally about 2.5hrs.

Word of warning!!!!!. do not let your GF try and persuade you to take the dreaded Blue Local bus from BKK to HH.

My GF who is Irish and also a travel agent, in her wisdom to try and save some money on our trip last year, after seeing that it was only 128baht each for the 3hr plus ride, decided that was the way we would get to HH.

We arrived at an open air bus station that resembled a wild west town.
We arrived at 10am in the morning and it was about 35°at the time..
When we got on the bus, the seats were only vinyl (no sign of any cloth), and for the next 3 hrs proceded to swelter, as the A/C on the bus was about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
For the next 3hrs I had to endure "How Much Further is it to HH" nearly every 15 mins.

The good thing to come out of her 3hrs of suffering the heat etc, was that it has cured her of any further thought of arranging bus trips in Thailand.
Hope this info helps you with your choice of travel, and that you have a good trip

Another possible option for your return to HH is
ferry from Phucket Town to Krabi / Ao Nang -
Bus from Krabi to Trang then -
Train from Trang to HH
There is one (poss 2) trains per day, one I know leaves at 9am, gettin to HH 12 hours later, dependant on ........
Good luck and enjoy the trip.

I saw a promotion program of Drive and Flight around Thailand on a Thai magazine last week, which included a drive to Krabi.

I may try that in July
I'm adorable crazy ! :-)
