We have been here just over three years now and whilst we use Tesco and Villa for somethings we still visit The Old Shopping Mall at least once a week for the various things they sell so much cheaper than anywhere else. As everyone else says you never know what you are going to find in there and since they started the refit it has been far more chaotic than usual but I do feel it has lost some of its character especially in the homewear section at the back - it is all so orderely up in the new section.

I do go to Chat Chai occassional but I have a problem in there as I suffer from claustrophobia and the minute is starts to get hot and crowded I am out as quickly as possible.

[quote="Jeeny"]Hello every one,

Here is some news about Hua Hin Nadpob Market. At this time it is being build at the old Satukarn Square in the center of Hua Hin opposite the municipality. It has a very colourful fence.

Hua Hin Nadpob Market will have shops for products and services of premium quality for standard or lower price. The restaurants on the 1st floor will serve good quality food with fine taste. And the food court on the second floor will serve local food from Petchaburi, Hua Hin, Pranburi and Prachuap Khirikhan.

And important to me and my husband Nadpob Market will be wheelchair accessible.
- Ramp access with rail at the front, the back and the side entrances.
- Elevators from the uderground car park to the 1st and 2nd floor.
- Wheelchair accessible restrooms on the 1st and 2nd floor.
- Ramp access to the hotel Baan Silarhom Hua Hin at the backside.

Any idea when it will be open.
We loved the restaurants and missed them when last in Hua Hin

I like that Aladdins cave effect where you never know just what you're going to find next.

Couldn't agree more - and I do hope the old places can keep going. But looking back through these posts there's really only a handful of other HH expats on here who are of the same opinion - HHF, Buksi, Usual Suspect etc. People who have been there years and aren't phased by rummaging around in the back of ChatChai market for example.
I'm still concerned that there are many more - newer - expats who will be drawn to the 'safe' options like Tesco.
There seems to be a basic difference between those who had to search to find things 'pre Tesco' and those who now know they can do a 'one stop shop' - or almost that - at MV and Villa. It's what they were used to doing at home.
So it would be good to hear some other opinions from the newbies on shopping habits - come on guys!

If I can ever get my act together and move to HH from Aust I will most certainly shop in all places away from the NEW.

Parking, parking, parking. With downtown parking spaces overflowing with cars for hire, Villa and Market Village come as a relief. Imagine how much business downtown businesses are losing because motorcycles are parked carelessly and cars for hire never move.

5hitloads I imagine - absolute 5hitloads.

Until HH does something sensible about central parking, the small businesses are going to suffer.

This place has not been that long open. I went in last night and the 2nd floor looks like a warehouse of failed shop fronts. Sad to see so many people who invested in their 4 x 4 meter shells, to have already closed down, with signs still above, gutted and empty spaces.

The first floor has a few that are in the same state, but also many that have not even been rented out since the place opened.

I don't know what the situation is but something is clearly wrong.

Dare I say it, a nice clear image of what is likely to happen if they sweep the bar district away in favour of a larger shopping mall, as has been suggested in some quarters, and exactly the same as happened in Udon.

I was in there a couple of weeks ago on a mid-week afternoon to visit the small Indian restaurant (which is pretty good) and I didn't see another person in the whole mall.
