How many times do we have to say it? There seem to be problems with your level of comprehension along with your funky keyboard.suede wrote:Im guessing theres a problem with the forum database.
(could be wrong, though)

I just dont get how an appostrophe is something generally "swedish".
Please answer this question (if the only logical problem is my keyboard and windows charset) : How come other forums (non swedish) support the apostrophe?
(and may I just hint that your tone might be a little too rude)
Im gonna try something here:
´´
Hah. There you go. Appostrophes (works if I hit that key two times). Now tell me it´s my keyboard again.

I have the same problem when I try to write words with Finnish ae (ä) or oe (ö) sounds. They just don't come out properly, no matter which keyboard or computer I may use. See what I mean?

Which goes back to my comment about the problem being with the charset and not the forum ... we could of course get Lev to install every language pack on the planet ... or simply stick to English charaters!

Yeah. Im not stupid, you know. I know exactly how foreign characters work but still - the apostrophe isnt one of em.
Question: No matter what you do, you wont be able to display those finnish characters. Explain to me why two apostrophes in a row are displayed but not one.
Ive got a theory:
The apostrophe breaks up the forum code, which makes it insert as a string and in the process of "rendering" the character in a post it bugs out.
seems logical to me.
Just prove me wrong.

Not an attempt to 'prove' anyone wrong suede, but are you by any chance using linux.
There have been some examples of apostrophe ('), ampersand (&), exclamation (!), and the French grave and acute accents being incorrectly translated in some text files - I do not know the full details.
If you are using linux and some keyboard transliteration - could this be a factor?
Peter

Ok Mr. Suede the Swede. I believe now that you have been directed to this forum with the sole intention of driving people insane.
Assuming you are using Windows 2000 or greater:
In Control Panel/Regional and Language Settings/Languages/Details ensure that Keyboard (United States) is an option. It may be wise also to add the English(UK) driver also as maybe your keyboard is more like a British keyboard then a US keyboard. You can tell if you have the correct driver for the keyboard by typing the @ and " characters in Word or Notebook. If they are correct then you have the correct English keyboard driver.
You will then be able to toggle from Swedish after ensuring that language switching on the task bar is on (again from Region and Language Settings).
Start up you browser and check language support. If you run Mozilla select Tools/Options/Advanced/Edit Languages and ensure that your browser supports English. (This probably won't have any effect in HHAD but it is worth doing anyway as many web sites only support English)
In MS Internet Explorer it is Tools/Internet Options/Languages.
The problem can not be with the forum database. It gets what you send it and send what it reads verbatim. There is no character translation done by the host unless the data is held in a format other than ASCII. Anyway the translation would then be transparent to the user.
Got yer photos sorted yet?

Guess: If this had been a charset problem with my keyboard, the character would never ever had been displayed correctly... which it is, if I type in two apostrophes in a row. Should I just type in one apostrophe I get "´".
I´m not trying to stir things up here, I just wanna discuss this in a friendly tone.

Which still points to your system. If it were our system we would all have the same problem with them no matter how many we typed. HHAD readers are from across the globe using different operating systems and interfaces so why are you the only one with the problem and why do you insist on blaming the forum?suede wrote:which it is, if I type in two apostrophes in a row. How simple does it get?

Not the keyboard. Thatis a simple device that sends a signal to the OS telling that the user has pressed a key. The actual key is indictaed by a 2D matrix. The KEYBOARD DRIVER then decides what to do with the character depending upon environment, language etc. It is then sent to the application via the OS. The echo is handled by the OS and the display driver.suede wrote:Guess: If this had been a charset problem with my keyboard, the character would never ever had been displayed correctly... which it is, if I type in two apostrophes in a row. If you do not tell anybody what OS and Browser you are using then no one will be able to help.

If it were MY system, typing two apostrophes in a row wouldnt solve the problem - which it does.buksida wrote: If it were our system we would all have the same problem with them no matter how many we typed.

Sure, I can avoid that certain apostrophe, thats not the point. my point in the beginning was just that this forum should be compatible with it. Since, afterall, compatibility is what WWW is all about. And this seems to be a forum problem. Maybe switching to English UK/American in Windows would solve it. The point is I shouldnt have to.
And just to clarify things: I have, since the very start of this discussion, known all about how certain characters wouldnt work properly with other charsets.
(please note that there are two types of apostrophe like characters.)
The following, which most seem to use: '
and this one: ´´ (the one that displays properly when key is tapped twice)
Thanks for saying my posts in general arent all crap, btw.
