Fat Cat
Stopped in to the Fat Cat for the first and last time today with two friends for coffee. Me and 1 guy ordered Iced Coffee the other guy cappacino. 3 min later the waitress comes to the table with an expresso and a Chang beer. I tought she had the wrong table and told her we ordered 2 iced coffee and cappacino. She gives me a nasty look and tells me I ordered a Chang and expresso. I dont drink so I deffinatly didnt order a beer. Again told her our order and she says again I ordered the chaing.Ok now she goes to the counter andthe other guys who ordered the expresso is annoyed and asks about the cappacino , she says " we dont have Cappacino. So I said why didnt you tell us. She then says again that I ordered a Chang and slams the bottle top on the bottle like it was me she wanted to hit. The owner now comes over and Says to me this is Thailand and They dont understand what I said. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. At this point I am talking loud just as in my years in Thailand I hear Thais talk to Thais. He tells me how to act. I told him he only has Farang customers and he should train his staff. I had and many of my friends have resterants and service industries, some train there staff and Thais give great service. Some make excuses for the service. As we know excuses are like a holes we all have them. I hope the owner reads this and maybe will understand. FIRST IS, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. Oh we were happily asked to leave.

However well run a business and however well trained the staff there are always times when these things happen - especially in the LOS. We've seen it many times. But you do need to be very clear when ordering, and preferably try to order in Thai - which for coffees isn't difficult (but still not foolproof!)
Most times just asking for 'Cappo' will be understood. And for iced coffee 'Cafe yen' will do it. Adding 'mai krap' always helps.
In Thailand the 'customer is always right' attitude rarely works, and regular visitors know that admitting they don't have what you want isn't easy for Thais.

Well if Richard says it's okay, then yes, you must have an attidude.
Maybe you could met up and Richard could readjust your attidude.

I very much doubt the lady looked at the OP and thought " Right, I'll cock up this order, lose 1/4 of a days wages then lose face by losing my temper in front of everybody and ensuring that he never comes back and slags off my business/ place of employment on the internet and to any potential customers they may meet around town"
There again I do not know the OP, the lady or the establishment and would have just drunk the chang. Unless of course it was warm in which case I would have kicked up merry hell obviously.

Richard and members, If you know me then you know that I dont post just to post. I have been in Thailand awhile and understand the ways but again for me to make a post like this it must have been a situation that was bad. You can make all the excuses for you would like if that makes you feel better. But when the person tells me I ordered a Chang and I dont drink, I dont like being called a Liar. Being I dont drink and am not Drunk I know what I ordered. When the owner a Farlang doesnt know how to right the situation, that is a problem. And Richard I am from Ny and you know me I dont think your balls or brain are big enough or smart enought to tell me you think it was my attitude.
People make ecuses about losing face, The japanese when they are wrong and lose face try and do everything to make it right, not put the blame on the person that was wronged. There is bad service and bad owners in every Country dont use that its Thais or Thailand as an excuse, please.

Gents, constructive criticsm or praise is never rebuffed on this forum providing it is done in a civilised manner. Flaming is against forum rules.
Can I please ask that you keep your comments related to the service at the Fat Cat, and do not let this thread deteriorate into a slanging match, otherwise I will have little option but to lock it.

No wonder she misunderstood you, it's "cappucino" and not "cappacino!"fiesta fred wrote:Me and 1 guy ordered Iced Coffee the other guy cappacino.

I have to agree. I don't like to slag off a restaurant every time there is a misunderstanding and a mistake is made, but if it is egregious I would post it online to make a point. In Thailand, I got used to the language barrier issue when ordering in restaurants or bars. Where possible, I learned to order in Thai or used the menu to point out the item I wanted. Even so, sometimes I was still presented with the incorrect item. If it's small (regular coke instead of diet coke) I might let it go, but IMHO an alcoholic beverage for a coffee isn't that small. I would ask for the correct drink in that situation.fiesta fred wrote:

Yeah, well, we don't know you because you've only managed 24 posts in 3 years. If no-one posts then there isn't a forum, is there?fiesta fred wrote:Richard and members, If you know me then you know that I dont post just to post.
The people that post and risk giving an opinion/thought or whatever are the ones that make it all work so all you 'lurkers' can just sit around watching getting lots of good info for nothing.
Doesn't wash dude, post and speak your mind man, you'll gain some respect then.
Don't do the sanctimonious bollox about "If you know me" shit, most of us couldn't give a rats ass.

Re: Fat Cat
MYOB would probably be a good idea here, but I know Fred and although he's not a big poster that shouldn't earn him a bunch of crap like he's getting.
Any of us who've been here awhile probably understand some days you would like to not be treated like a black guy in a fancy neighborhood. According to my wife I speak "perfect Thai".......which is great for the twenty five words I know, but not good enough for anyone who isn't my wife. I don't know how many hundreds of times I get the blank look or am ignored because a Thai wasn't in the mood to deal with "another falang".........uh.....on occasion even my wife I'm sorry to say.........Perhaps this time it might not have been the stupid falang's fault, eh?
How 'bout we give old Fred a break and quit busting his balls for one of the few times he's used the forum to air out his feelings.....if I was him right now, I don't think I would bother again.

Its funny you mention that, as I'm sure its not the first time he's experienced bad service here - so was just thinking it must have been something out of the ordinary to post about it.T.I.G.R. wrote:How 'bout we give old Fred a break and quit busting his balls for one of the few times he's used the forum to air out his feelings.

Fair enough - but raising your voice to 'Thai' level gets farang nowhere fast. In fact it just makes things worse. People who claim to be conversant with the culture should realise that.caller wrote:Its funny you mention that, as I'm sure its not the first time he's experienced bad service here - so was just thinking it must have been something out of the ordinary to post about it.T.I.G.R. wrote:How 'bout we give old Fred a break and quit busting his balls for one of the few times he's used the forum to air out his feelings.
