Will his new place be down Ekamai a bit, or on the corner with Sukhumvit, HHF? Petehhfarang wrote:I usually have a meal at Bourbon Street every time I'm in Bangkok and have known the American owner for years. And yes, they are moving very soon after the first of the year down to Ekamai. He has purchased a 7? story building that will house his new restaurant plus a hotel above. I go there for the New Orleans style Cajun cuisine which to my knowledge cannot be found any where else in LOS.

hhfarang, the first time I went to Bourbon Street was sometimes in the early 90's. It's always been a great place and I particularly enjoyed their Mexican buffet. Now then, my question is, I've heard rumours about the Washington Square being demolished and everyone having to move out (I was a night time manager at Texas Lone Staar for a few months in 1999), do you know anything about this?

I was there two weeks ago Bamboo for an Irish wake so to speak after a funeral of a friend. It was held at Bourbon Street but we walked around afterwards and had beers at various places. Some owners were confused and some said definitely the leases were not being renewed. The confusion seems to stem from the owning family with the husband making the rounds saying they would be renewed, followed by the wife a few days later saying not to listen to him and prepare to leave...
I have a Thai friend who has shares in the Garden Massage place up at the end of the complex and apparently they've been renewed for another year. All very unclear what is really happening, and when. Pete

Re: Craving Buffalo wings and a good burger...
Yeah Pete, it's unclear to a lot of folks. The Korean massage place already moved (sorry, can't remember the name... it was a few doors down from Bourbon Street). They are currently doing new construction in the northwest corner of the square, but everything else looks the same. I guess Bourbon street is just getting the jump on things. I think the new place will be a couple of blocks off Sukhumvit, but still within an easy walk of the BTS according to Doug (the owner). He showed me the blueprints (of construction changes) and photos of the already existing building. It is a nice building and he said he purchased it outright, so no more leases. He certainly has ambitious plans for it.I was there two weeks ago Bamboo for an Irish wake so to speak after a funeral of a friend. Re: Craving Buffalo wings and a good burger...
You know ED i think you are wrong, i call down past there on my way home from where ever. To just grab one, the same as some of my NON drinking friends. Surely i am entitled to my opinion? I have seen that bb cart at some of the big events around town too, dont see any hookers or pool tables there!
Re: Craving Buffalo wings and a good burger...
Not many probably, due to the parking. They would go to one of the several restaurants in town that sell the Binta Burger. Big Mama in 94 is the nearest to me.E-Dork wrote:That's because everyone you know is off their trolley when devouring said greasy trash thus droooling over the greasy goodness of the Binta Burger.I don't understand, every one i know likes the binter burgers, so what do you mean a joke??

Big Mamma, what I thought was a Swedish restaurant (from word of mouth only, I haven't been there) sells Binta Burgers? SJ, tell me more about this place!

Just my opinion on the burger, and now Jimmy 40 has said that he does pop down there just for the burger so has proved my comments wrong. I stand corrected. Just not my preference of burger. Each to their own.bitter old man rant

Hey! A really good cheeseburger "in paradise" suits me better than Turkey for Christmas. It's hard to get into the Christmas spirit when I am surrounded by raving atheists (not saying anything about my own beliefs
) and living in a Buddhist country and the temperature outside is to 90F!
For me to enjoy Christmas, I need a dead pine tree decorated in garish lights, tinsel, and hanging ornaments handed down from generations with a pile of wrapped presents underneath, a snowman on the lawn, stockings hung by the fireplace (where the hell do I hang them here!), and people singing carols. Christmas in Thailand... bahhhhh, humbug!

I was having a very similar conversation with my mum about this and we agree that Christmas just isn't the same here. Bah humbug indeedhhfarang wrote:Hey!
