RIP Alan Ross
RIP Alan Ross
Alan from Phoenix bar and previously Flamingo bar died 30 minutes ago in the HH hospital
I had a call from his wife and Sueanne (flamingo bar owner) 2 hours ago that he was rushed to hospital. Got there only to be met on the steps by May (his wife) to be told that he was not conscious and not able to be seen by anybody. Got home and received a call to say he was no longer
I knew Alan for 10 years so a very deep loss to me
I will keep you posted regarding details and funeral arrangements

Re: RIP Alan Ross
Thats terrible news, Alan was a really lovely guy, always happy and cheerful. Sad day for HH, my thoughts are with Alans family.
Re: RIP Alan Ross
Very sad news, I did not know Alan, but I drive past the Phoenix bar regularly and the names Alan and May are on the sign outside.
Please accept my condolences Richard as a friend of Alan, also to his family and all his other friends.

Re: RIP Alan Ross
I was at the hospital when Alan sadly passed away. (I must have just missed you Richard)
Luckily I got have a drink with him a couple of nights ago having not seen him for over 3 years.
I spent many a happy hour at the Phoenix bar and at Alans home helping him transfer and create video dvd's for his bar, which was his passion. He loved his music very much. The Phoenix bar was indeed my local for many years.
He is now being taken to a temple near his home (sorry I don't know the name)
I am devastated to have lost such a good friend and host.
R.I.P my dear friend.

Alan was always happy to see you when you went into Phoenix, and before that Flamingo Bar. He loved his music and was one of life's true gentlemen - a rarity these days.
RIP Alan.

Re: RIP Alan Ross
That is very sad news, Alan was a great man that always made me feel at home. As many others did as well, I loved the late nights and music! Never a dull moment!! All my best to everyone who knew him!!!

Re: RIP Alan Ross
knew alan from 12 ago when we first got to hua hin. another canadian named al owned the old hard rock bar and i used to go there to drink. 1 nite al says a friend opened bar named flamingo and why don't we go over and have a drink. this was first time i met alan. i took to liking alan right from the get go. his bar was a hole in the wall with no redeaming virtues except fot alan. so i would go over when i went drinking and......this was about 4-5 times a week back then. that was back in the day,as the kids say, when i still had the juice to b'que myself and survive the next day. when alan moved to the phoenix i had moved close to his new bar. alan was forever lamenting the lost of his fellow canadians who were not coming to see him any more. it was a tad out of the way and it stood alone, no other bars within walking distance. i told alan that it would become a neighborhood bar and to give it time. it became 1 of the first succesful neighborhood bars in hua hin. there are many neighborhood bars now, bars not in bitterbomb[as alan refered to it]. he loved his dvd musical rock collection and was like a new father extoiling it's merits.he had the largest collection of music in thailand[according to him] and was damn proud of it. he loved country music and had high hopes for the phoenix to become the focal point for country music lovers to grather and watch his vast collection. this flopped. i even had a hand in it. alan talked endlessly about his dream of turning phoenix into the nashville of hua hin. so i encouraged him to advertise in awol. i put the ad together got [Mod Edit - Name removed to protect identity] at awol to give alan a good rate, he did, and the rest was history. big time dissapointment for us both. nobody showed. but his idea for free food on saturday was an instant hit so he was as happy as a clam about that. everybody that knew alan will miss him.

Re: RIP Alan Ross
I was one of those early in 2000 when there were just a handful of Farang residents in Hua Hin. Alan was a great guy and a great friend. As Toms and Richard and those who know me, that we had a lot of good times back then.
He will be surely be missed and never forgotten.

Re: RIP Alan Ross
I was only with Alan a few days ago in his bar having a drink. I have also been many many Saturday evenings for his "free food" night as we enjoyed the music he played along with his kind hospitality.
My thoughts go out to his wife Mae, his staff and of course his family. I am deeply saddened by this news and regarded Alan as a friend. Alan you will be seriously missed by many but especially myself. RIP.

Re: RIP Alan Ross
If anyone has details of where Alan is and when and where he will be cremated (one person on here said Tuesday - tomorrow) can you please post the details of PM me. As I'd like to go along. Thank you all
Re: RIP Alan Ross
The temple is up the road to the Elephant village
Tomorrow is the cremation but I have always understood it to be by invite from family (Mae) but every funeral I have been to is different.
It is still possible to pay respects tonight

Re: RIP Alan Ross
I just heard an hour ago that the cremation will no longer be held tomorrow as the Canadian embassy need to see a coroners report before they will let it go ahead.
No reason given but I can only assume that there must have been an insurance policy involved that requires a full medical report.
I too have known Alan ever since my wife took over the bar next door Bai Poo, later on renamed the Love Shack, in 2002. Alan was the perfect landlord who would introduce himself to new customers as soon as they entered the bar and would more often than not buy them a drink before they left.
A sad loss to the town, I shall be there when the funeral takes place to wish him a fond farewell.
