Orphanage christmas party

Post by barrys »

Well, it's that time of the year again folks.

After last year's Xmas party for the Mercy House kids - which was a great occasion and very much enjoyed by everyone involved - we decided this year to bring Mercy House and the Pala 'U orphanage together for a huge party for around 80 kids.

Unfortunately, however, Mercy House can't make it because they have a very full program over Christmas.

So we're going ahead with the party for the 55+ children from Pala 'U.

Once again, the party will beheld at Mermaid Cruises marina in Paknampran on 26 December.

And once again, we're looking for sponsors who are willing to donate money/Christmas food items/(un)wrapped presents/time & effort.

Some of us will also get together on the afternoon of 25 December to prepare for the following day.
Helpers are very welcome for this, too, of course.

So if anyone can help in any way to make this a memorable Christmas for a bunch of lovely, well-deserving kids, please get in touch by mail or phone.

Lev, that's brilliant - thanks a million

Also received a donation from hhfarang yesterday when he brought the kitten - many, many thanks.

Some English/Canadian ladies - some of them helped us at the party last year - have offered to buy presents for the kids and come to help on the day.

Many thanks to all of you so far

Well, Barry and Tan have done it again!! The kids from Pala-u had a fantastic day on the boat last time and can hardly wait for the Christmas dinner on the 26th. Not only will they get to try some tasty western traditional Christmas food and all the trimmings, but another ride on the boat is 'on order' and I believe they are having a tough time focusing on school this next week!

It promises to be an exciting day for everyone, and we can't say enough about Barry et al who have put this together and organized it so well. Thanks also to those of you have responded so quickly and graciously with support for this day. We truly appreciate the community and how you rally around and support the work we are doing with the refugee kids from Burma.

Christmas blessings to you all,

Hi All

What a fantastic responce! Once again, the HHAD community has shown how generous they can be, truely heart warming stuff, especially for those much less fortunate than ourselves. As discussed with Barry and Rich, we will be providing 10-15K baht of school supplies, stationary, pens, pencils, paper, etc to ensure they can continue their studies for at least the next year... tho it's not stricly a personal gift to the kids per se, its a practical neccessity. To echo Rich's comments, we have met the kids (as has Barry) and they are the most unassuming delightful beings on the planet, they deserve your support. We'll be there on the day, and look forward to saying a "personal" thankyou to all involved. In particular, Barry has come to the fore again for a very worthy cause, our personal thanks.

I'm sorry if I'm asking a silly question, but is there an account set up somewhere where people can just make a donation, however small or large, by telex/transfer from an ATM etc.

Perhaps the site could advertise it for every reader all the time as service to society.

Amazing response from the owners of the site, sponsors and others, good to see such compassion in an all to hard world.

To update the situation as of now:

The Evason has promised a contribution and Makro has said they will supply sweets and other goodies for the kids.

I also got a phone call from Christine, who has kindly offered to make gingerbread men and other cookies plus chocolate cup cakes. She and her husband, Colin, will bring all this to the party on 26 December and also give us a hand.

And last but not least in this bulletin, some of you may remember from last year that a Finnish guy named Magnus called me and met me in town and gave me 20,000 baht before disappearing just as quickly again.

Well, he's back! He called me yesterday and then went to our restaurant yesterday evening and gave my other half 25,000 baht to help this year!!

Many thanks to you all for your outstanding generosity
