Which hospital for an x-ray ?

Post by Johan »

Hello,

I think my foot is broken, i can't walk. Yesterday went to Sao Paulo and the "doctor" didn't check anything, he gave me some medicine and that's it. I can't really walk and my foot is yellow...

I want to see a real doctor, any recommendation fast ?

Thanks.

You are in charge. Ask for an x-ray. Polyclinic or any of the hospitals will oblige.

Polyclinic is grid B3 here http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm
opposite the Esso station. I'm sure San Paulo will do one if you insist on it. There's also HH hospital and the new Bangkok one.

Why not go to the new Bangkok Hospital ER Johan?

Hopefully Johan has got sorted by now but just for general info - last week a friend had a scan (MRI) at the new Bangkok Hospital. I saw the diagnostic report and was very impressed by how clearly it was set out. Excellent English - medical terminology seemed spot on.
OK it cost, but still not astronomical at less than 3000 baht, and if needed to take home for further treatment in the UK etc their reports should be very clear to other specialists.

Mags, it is all about money. Bangkok hospital is streets ahead of the others but people have to decide for themselves and judge the seriousness of the problem.

If I really thought I had broken my foot and actually resided in HH I would not be asking HHAD what to do, for example !!

Not totally correct. As an insurance broker our clients bring receipts to us. Sometimes we are very surprised by the fact that the Bangkok Hospital is cheaper than the San Paulo. Just ask for a quote, that will be for free. And even looking at Johan's experiences, even if it costs some extra, a good diagnosis is more important.

Went to hua hin hospital, bill 599 bahts for the x-ray, medication and nurse service but had to wait 2 hours.

I have an infection but not broken, they gave me antibiotics.

If you need urgent care don't go there, if you are not dying it's ok if you can afford to wait 2 hours.

An x-ray it's an x-ray and everywhere it's the same.

220 bahts for the x-ray, 40 for medication and 330 for nurses and doctors.

Yes compared to the same in UK for example it IS cheap, and as others have commented - if treatment is needed in HH urgently then it has to be done. Thankfully Johan seems sorted now - but as he says himself only after a 2 hour wait!

I think bottom line these days with SOME, not all, expats is the loss of baht income due to the exchange rates. It's starting to bite now, to the extent that for some a hospital bill of 2 to 3 thousand baht is a lot.

The reality is that in the UK I have to pay that much now for a visit to the dental hygeinist. People quickly lose track of costs and relative values when in the LOS for a while

Policlinic was close tuesday at 5pm. Then i went to Hua Hin hospital. And i don't care to wait 2 hours as i wasn't dying.
