where go out for dinner, but avoiding tourist-restaurant

Restaurants, food, beverage, hawkers, and local markets and suppliers. This is the place for discussion on Hua Hin's culinary options.

Yes, I used to be a regular in the Roadhole when I was in town and that site is now a collection of small bars.
I must admit I've used most of those cafes at one time or another but I'm not sure exactly which one was Bam Bam's; certainly there's still one opposite the Swedish place. (I'm terrible for using bars and restaurants without reading the sign on the front!)
The street is still a popular place to eat and when I was there in September most of those cafes were still busy despite the town being generally very quiet.

Unfortunately a few of them have become other businesses now, I think there are two art shops as BB mentions and a leather shop.
Yes, my daughter had the pitch next to BamBams, selling Isaan food - that's how she knows the owner (Gael) so well. BamBam is actually the owner's daughter.

My daughter was forced away from her pitch when the local authorities declared the Temple Wall a Hua Hinian zone only. Soon after that they covered the area as it is now.

BamBams used to be the second restaurant along, but they've given up a lot of their space to retail outlets.

Well is good to see it is still alive and kicking. Did your Daughter set up anywhere else after she got moved on. If she had regular clientel it seems a shame to give it all up.

Yes, she tried several different places, but retired as a housewife when the eldest daughter started school. I think it was too much effort running her one man band, looking after her youngest and having to go to the school twice a day - and I thought women were meant to be able to multi-task  .

You know BB, I think I might have eaten at your daughters place a few times as my partner used to go down there to a small place for Issan food a few years ago.

I hope she didn't over-charge you :D Actually, thinking back to that time, I think all meals were 15 or 20 Baht - the good old days.

Food at the time I was there was best Thai I had and also very reasonable price.
If you like Seafood you pick what you want and all cooked fresh for you.
at diner time, when i walk through poolsuk rd.,
this Bam Bam restaurant was busy all the time,
it seems that many people know the food is fine there.

Another good and cheap little restaurant is located on Petchkasem Rd.
between 78 und 80
. a small shop with excellent food and good music
(a Lobo CD is running in an endless loop)
but the staff is friendly and funny. Sanuk, mak, mak.
take it easy
