Baan Chalelarn Hotel on Chomsin looked nice and had rooms for 1,000 per night incl American B/F.
Chalelarn has nice rooms and a great pool overlooking the town but they cut the electric to my room because I was 1 hour late to checkout, the hotel was not even full. Personally I think that is completely unacceptable practice and I won't be going back because of it even though I had a great stay up until that point.

The Sukwilai I was not impressed, nor the White Sands (never again. ever)
In my opinion the white sands is ok but overpriced. Clean and fairly simple.

White sands depends very much where you room is. I was there when they were renovating the place, and the only habitable rooms - after walking through a building site - were those over the Kantina. You walk out of the room pretty much right into the exhausts from the commercial kitchen below. If the heat and hot metal surfaces themselves weren't dangerous enough, then the noise from the extractors was enough to put you off on its own. They should never consider those rooms rentable. As a result of the complaints, AMEX actually refunded me the cost of my stay and I don't for one minute regret making the complaints.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

The big tall new one in the middle of Bintabaht I quite liked personally, the rooms are certainly decent enough, location is obviously going to divide people. The one near the 7 I haven't stayed in.

I used to stay at Subhamitra for 500-500/night.
Room was no frills but comfy enough, quiet on the back side, spotlessly clean, nice staff, motos for rent @150/day, girl friendly and a huge pool. Excellent location for brekkie at AIHH and an easy stagger home from Binthabaht.

I recommend Cha ba chalet for pretty much the same, almost opposite AIHH.

It's a year later now has the Sand Inn got any better? Since the location is indeed pretty much right in the middle of things.
