Eating at the Sofitel
Re: Eating at the Sofitel
Hi Carol
I usually don't bother with these places unless they do a discount buffet night mid-week, which many do once a week, then it's worth a visit but you just have to be careful of drinks, that's where they sting you.
With the choice of quality restaurants in HH being bewildering then there are more than enough better options in HH IMO, especially for seafood, for a better price too probably.
If, however, you live in HH and have done so for a long time, then you must have blitzed the restaurant scene big time, checked out the countless options in some of the threads here and be scrabbling around for new places to eat if you're now on to international hotels for casual dinner.
If you are just visiting then there's much more to check out, just adventure around, seek and you will find some top places. You could even start by checking out some of the sponsors' places, they're all good.
My apologies but the OP was a bit vague to say the least so not sure what the context is.

Slightly off topic but can one just wonder into a 5 * hotel and join the breakfast as a paying non resident. What is the going rate for a 5 * breakfast?

My family stayed at the Anantara and the Hilton, on both occasions I have joined them for breakfast several times.malcolminthemiddle wrote:Slightly off topic but can one just wonder into a 5 * hotel and join the breakfast as a paying non resident. What is the going rate for a 5 * breakfast?
They never charged either me or my family. (I know because I paid all the bills

If you go in on your own, I think they will check you against a residents list, if your not on the list then I expect around Baht 700.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Re: Eating at the Sofitel
I stayed at the Sofitel two years ago but did not eat there except for breakfast, considering better value and variety in town for other meals. (The Japanese restaurant did look good).
As far as breakfast it is done outside, bloody good, and you get ticked off the guest list on arrival. (I didn't try walking in backwards)

Re: Eating at the Sofitel
Stayed at the Sofitel 4 years ago and the food there was very good and not really over the top in price.
Carol you asked in another post for somewhere to take you Mother Inlaw. Try the coffee shop in the gardens at the Sofitel. They do High Tea there as well as normal cakes and savouries.
The coffee shop is an interesting place with a lot of old photos relating to the history of the hotel and also a lot of info there regarding the hotel being used in the making of the Killing Fields
.
If you go, take time and walk around the gardens and get some photos of the animals in the garden that they form out of hedges. This video shows a good tour around the hotel
When I was there we ended up staying in Hua Hin longer than expected, and after moving out of the Sofitel, still went back and used the bar and coffee shop facilities without any problems.
It is well worth a visit, just to walk around and see what the hotel is like.

The soSitel is pretty good and not that dear. Ambience is great when you need to relax. Would say the same for the Hyatt, Banyan, the vineyard and others. Personal favourite the Dusit on a monday evening.

Re: Eating at the Sofitel
Dusit has a fab buffet dinner on Mondays - if I remember correctly it's around 900b without drinks. They also have a free-flow drink package for around 500b extra. Be there at 6.30pm when it opens!
I always try to go at least once when I am in HH.
The high tea at Sofitel is great to do once every now and then, but I back in June they only served it on Saturdays...better give them a call before and check
For a special lunch you could go to the Italian rest. Ciao at the Marriott ( beautiful setting at the beach ). They usually have a lunch-special for 299b -one dish and a beer/soda. Excellent value
I would also recommend the restaurant at the Black Mountain golf course - I always had top quality dishes there at very reasonable prices.
