Dangerous fish in Hua Hin ? Do you have a list ?
Dangerous fish in Hua Hin ? Do you have a list ?
Hello,
Today i went to fishing and i've catched a dangerous fish, i didn't knew it at the time, lucky i asked a friend of mine if he wanted my fish as my wife like don't like to eat small fishs. He told me this "if you eat this fish you will die".
So i need a list of dangerous fish for the next time, i don't want to kill anyone by giving them a dangerous fish.
Thanks.

Terry or Barry may know of a list, or at least be able to give a verbal list. What is the description of the one that you caught? If it as any type of blow fish or puffer fish I can understand your friend's comment. Did it puff up like a balloon when you brought it on board the boat? Pete

And maybe throw those that can't be eaten back into the sea to live another day.Johan wrote:So i need a list of dangerous fish for the next time, i don't want to kill anyone by giving them a dangerous fish.

Here's a small bit about puffer fish here. Appears some unlucky Thais got some fish ball soup made from them. Pete

....and here is a warning which covers a type of poisoning from just about all tropical reef fish. It appears it can be so extensive among many species that a list can't be provided.

But is much more common in larger predatory fish. Barracuda, Grouper, etc.prcscct wrote:....and here is a warning which covers a type of poisoning from just about all tropical reef fish. It appears it can be so extensive among many species that a list can't be provided.

After research, it was a puffer fish but i didn't reconize it because normally they look like ballons and mine didn't.

Can't help with the salt water fellas but at Hua Hin Fishing Lodge, we have a few freshwater dudes you might want to avoid....
Pacu (Pla Jaramet) - will easily take your finger off if you are not careful. Amazon origin and cousin of the Piranha but they ARE found in rivers here. They are in the Pranburi River for sure.
Alligator Gar (Pla Jonokay) - will easily take your arm off, if you are not careful - North American Pan Handle origin and have not yet heard of any in the wild here.
Arapaima (Pla Chon Amazon) - can give you a good knockout blow from the head - kind of 'Amazon Kiss' (As distinct from the Glasgow variety) I guess.
Amazon Redtail Catfish (Pla Amazon Daeng) - According to the sensationalist TV programme "River Monsters' - reputedly capable of devouring small children
what a load of cobblers.........
Joking apart - our staff are on hand to ensure no injuries

Most of our remaining varieties (around 35 or so different ones) are the usual smiley slippery types
A complete list of all our fish can be found here http://www.huahinfishing.com/the-fish

These puffer fish are known as Blow Fish in Australia .They are everywhere in are rivers and oceans. But we know you cant eat them .As a kid the best thing to do with them was to get 3 match sticks ,stick them in there rectum and watch them puff up, then explode

just an odd question mate - on that (very impressive - wow) list of fish in your ponds it has a few WWF endangered ones marked..... if theyre on the endangered list how come you are allowed to fish for em? Is it because they are "domesticated" and not wild?
Man Ive seen a bit of film of one of those giant catfish.... would love to see someone get one of those babies on the line....I guess swimming lessons usually follow
Id like to see someone getting nutted by a fish too....must be a laugh.
I thought we had Crocs in Thailand too...those long snouted Nile Cayman like buggers.

I thought the double breasted Issan mermaid was the most dangerous fish around here!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

At 20 odd feet the hybrid "crocodylus porosus/ siamensis" would make "Handbags at dawn" compared to the dreaded " spindly killer fish" Back in your box Baldric!!

With the exception of the large Giant Mekongs which came frome breeding farms and/or were rescued from elswhere, our 'Endangered' species were all obtained as fingerlings from specialist breeders and are thus 'not wild'.
It's fair to say that The Giant Mekong Catfish, Giant Siamese Carp, Clown Knifefish and Julien's Carp are virtually extinct in the wild and we are 'doing our bit' in a small way to keep these species going.
Giant Mekong Catfish Giant Siamese Carp
Clown Knifefish
Julien's Carp
Mekongs and Giant Siamese Carp are often found in fiheries such as Hua Hin Fishing Lodge - which are now becoming 'sancturies' for these creatures. Clown Knifefish and Julien's Carp are often being bread for the aquarium trade.
It's an issue that I have 'spouted' about elsewhere on this forum, but the locals simply do not give a toss about conservation of their species.

thanks for that mate (and the pictures too). Good on you for preserving species, and yes I can see how the Thias wouldnt even realise they were fishing them out of existance (that aint a pop...its just a fact that thais dont tend to think about what happens tomorrow).
Is it that the Mekong (and other rivers) is getting too polluted to support the bigger species, or have they just been fished to oblivion?
Im surprised the King hasnt got some wing of his many headed ecology program preserving species in a sort of Royal fish reserve. Still, its only recently Ive noticed wildlife programs actually mentioning fish species that are threatened.....time we all woke up eh?
