Time left on US passport

Post by migrant »

Hi All,

We are going over in October, returning in November.

My passport expires (I just noticed) July 2011.

I seem to remember as long as there is six months left from your date of departure from Thailand, you are fine, but........

Leaving in 2 months so there should be time to renew, but the working word is should, I'd hate to send it off and our great US speedy government hold it too long!

Does anyone know how much time from departing Thailand needs to be left on a passport??

I'm sure the requirement is 6 months validity to enter Thailand rather than leave. Airline check-in will scutinise your passport as well. If they let you board and for any reason you're not allowed to enter, they get fined.
If you've got your flight booked, call the airline. They'll know the requirements as well - or should do.

I believe the 6 month time period is only required when entering another country but no such requirement on returning to the U.S. as long as passport is valid

Yes, you need six months validity to enter Thailand so if your passport is valid until july you will have no proplem.
I checked up on this a couple of weeks a go and I had to send my passport to the consulate in Paris to renew it!(191 bloody euros for some reason.)

Glad I'm not French. I just applied for a new passport at the SA embassy and it cost me 700 baht, but it can take up to three months to arrive as it all get done back in SA rather than over here.
