wireless internet
hey guys, I travel to Hua Hin 3 or 4 times a year...there's lot's of free wi-fi hot spots in bars & motels etc offering same...Hua Hin citywide is also free but just doesn't do the job...Thailand is in the process of getting up to speed with 3G...recently a Bangkok post article advertising True as good option for wireless internet...does anyone have a link or contact to get this activated...their web site isn't easy...I usually stay for 4 weeks each time and am happy to pay for a good wireless internet service on my laptop...hope someone can help...cheers
The easiest way to do it is by going into the True store (on the corner of the night market), buying the USB dongle and subscribing to their services. AIS and TOT are also promoting their own joint 3G services though I have yet to try them. Local provider Sunshine Internet also offer Wifi but it has a limited catchment.

Sunshine
Just spent 2 weeks in a villa on the road to Black Mountain golf. I knew I was on the boundary of the sunshine wifi but I got a reasonable signal most of the time. 300 Baht for 15 days was good and used the cafe if wanted a quicker link.
Phaaw Ling, there's some info on this thread that might be of use:
http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/mo ... 14375.html
I'm on TrueMove's 3G mobile phone service and find it reliable, fast and the catchment area larger than I expected, if outside it reverts to EDGE. They sell a laptop USB modem called 'huawei' in the shop Buksi mentioned for something like 2,800 Baht plus the sim card useage package you choose.
Then on 3rd floor of Market Village there's a big PC/mobile section where you can get AIS compatible USB modems from about 3,000 upto to 4,900 Baht for the Solomon 520. Again 3G sim cards on pay-as-you-go are available (reverting to EDGE when outside coverage area), the AIS sim I got came with 30 free hours before you needed to top-up.
No experience of other networks, but always found AIS and TrueMove to be reliable and fast enough.

Both True and AIS have it all sorted and working online basically when you walk out the shop.Phaaw Ling wrote:Thailand is in the process of getting up to speed with 3G...recently a Bangkok post article advertising True as good option for wireless internet...does anyone have a link or contact to get this activated...their web site isn't easy

Re: wireless internet
Hey guys, thanks heaps for the info
I went to the True store on corner of night market and they don't do computer stuff only mobile phones & SIM cards
I went to Market Village, 3rd floor, to the True store there and same result...luckily there was girl from Banana IT in the shop and she took me to their Super store...you probably know the one...it's got everything
I bought a Vodafone brand MD950 USB dongle (same size as a cigarette lighter) for 1590THB and they gave me an internet SIM for free with 300 minutes credit...I think Dtac network
Easy Plug & Play installation...5 minutes later it was rocking along...good up & download rate
Compatible with Windows OS...XP and Vista
Again, thanks for your replies...it's good to be able give something back
Cheers
