Red marks and itching like crazy!
Re: Red marks and itching like crazy!
Here is a photo of my red marks - not bed bugs, I am suspicious of a tiny black fly.

If you have been to the beach it could be some kind of 'sand bugs/flies'..I got something similar last year, itching and the marks look the same..they don't go away fast....Good Luck!

It could be an allegy. It could also be Hives. If you have animals it could also be flea bites. Fleas loves that sort of climate. They live in bedding, carpets etc. But check out Hives http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h ... s%3Disch:1Blyish wrote:I've been in Thailand for three days and I'm covered in little red marks (actually, they're not that little; they're about the same diameter as a pencil rubber) and itching like crazy. At first I thought they were mosquitos bites but today I found a few in places that are covered by clothes. For example, I found a couple on my gluts (no joke), which means the mosquitoes would've had to get through my shorts and my underwear to bite me. Also, they weren't there when I woke up and I've been sitting working in the computer all morning, so I have no idea how they could've bit me there.
Am I missing something? I've had chicken pox and every other childhood illness, so that can't be it. The marks are mostly on my legs (and now my gluts) and a couple on one arm. The itching is driving me absolutely crazy and bug spray is making no difference --I have lots more red marks today than I did yesterday. Anybody experienced this? Could I be allergic to something here?

Yes went to the beach on Saturday and the marks started to appear on Sunday. Had something like this before - itching stops but the marks stay for quite sometime.elem wrote:If you have been to the beach it could be some kind of 'sand bugs/flies'..I got something similar last year, itching and the marks look the same..they don't go away fast....Good Luck!

It's difficult to be sure, but I'd go along with elem that the problem could well be sand flies especially as the timing from your beach trip is right.
I always know when they've got me as the itching dosn't go away for 4 days or so and the red marks can take longer to disappear.
I've encountered the little buggers before on HH beach, especially just after the Sofitel part heading south. They might also be more active as we've been having some rain lately?

We will have to find a new place on the beach as that is exactly where we go!lomuamart wrote:It's difficult to be sure, but I'd go along with elem that the problem could well be sand flies especially as the timing from your beach trip is right.

I've noticed lots of tiny bugs flying around in the house. I'm wondering if those are the flies everybody is mentioning and what's causing the problem. I'm obviously getting bit by something here in the house and that seems the most likely option.

I get the same bites if I go out after sunset without a thorough application of OFF!, a bug spray with DEET. The pharmacist gave me a cream to make them stop itching, it takes about a day to reach full effectiveness, then the itching quickly disappears. I'll post the name of it after I get home.
Re: Red marks and itching like crazy!
Thanks. I'm willing to try anything at this point.
Re: Red marks and itching like crazy!
Could be midgee bites. Had swarms of them flying around at sunset for a few days last week. They bit me on the ankles badly and left similar blotches.
They are a minute mosquito type I think, some people call them sand flies or mangrove mozzies. So tiny they can fly through normal window wire treatments .

Looks like sand fly bites. We used to get them in Australia. Try not to scratch them, this will make them worse. I just looked up some cheap homemade products ...they reckon One third each of baby oil, dettol, and metho. Also someone else said Sorbolene, #10-15% dettol, #Dash of Ti-treeoil or CitronellaTimandT wrote:Here is a photo of my red marks - not bed bugs, I am suspicious of a tiny black fly.
