A new fish and chips shop opened yesterday on the beach road around the corner from the Hilton. It is owned by long time Hua Hin resident "Canadian Jim" of Coconuts Bar fame. It is directly across the street from where his old place (Coconuts II) was.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet but he told me the fish is beer battered like I like it so I'll have to give it a go asap!

I don't know if Gob's is still there or not o be honest, but the new one me and HHF posted about is a different plaice and not down that small soi to the Chinese temple. It's actually on the main Naresdamri Road roughly as map below, approx. opposite Coconuts 2/Monsoon.

I just tried it tonight before meeting the GF for three turns round the temple. I will leave more nuanced reviews to the Brits, but what I had was great and more than I could eat. A huge slab of cod, I'd guess about 8 ounces, battered and fried well, very nice batter, a big load of chips, garnishes and tartar sauce. No mushy peas on my plate (fine with me) but they are available.

Certainly worth a try.

I think it's called 'Captain's' or 'Captain'. Won't swear to that, though.

Oh! So sad... All day I worked up an appetite to dine at Captains on Monday night.. and arrived to find that it was closed. Actually, driving around town, the whole place seemed to be closed (20:30 hours).

Many places now closed on Monday (low season) and many places not open until 5pm (low season)
